Virginia Beach Police confirmed that the suspect has also been killed. Virginia Beach Police said that it believes that the suspect acted alone. "This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach," said Mayor Bobby Dyer. "The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbor, colleagues."Virginia Beach Police said that the suspect was a "long time" employee of Virginia Beach's Public Utilities division. The incident took place at 4 p.m. ET. After gunning down his co-workers, police fired on the suspect. An officer responding to the incident was shot in the vest. Police Chief Jim Cervera said that the officer was saved by the vest. The suspect was then killed by police, Cervera said. "There's no way to describe an incident such as this.," Cervera said.Cervera said that the incident took place on multiple floors before police engaged the suspect. "There was a long gun battle between the first four officers that responded and the suspect," he said.Originally, officials said 11 people died. A 12th victim died while being transported to the hospital. Four people were injured, including the unidentified officer, during Friday's shooting. Both the ATF and FBI are en route to assist in the investigation. There are several municipal buildings on site in Virginia Beach. The particular building where Friday's shooting occurred houses the Public Utilities Department. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam arrived in Virginia Beach hours after the incident. He was then briefed by local officials on the details of Friday's shooting. “This is a horrific day for the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are devastated by the tragic shooting in Virginia Beach. I am in Virginia Beach with law enforcement authorities and Mayor Dyer, where I am monitoring the situation and offer the state’s full support," Northam said. "My deepest condolences and prayers go to the families of those who left home this morning, and will not return tonight, as well as those who have been injured in this tragedy. This is unspeakable, senseless violence. I commend local and state law enforcement, first responders, medical teams, and all others who acted swiftly to respond to this situation. My thoughts continue to be with the victims and their families.” 2255

What bill are we talking about here? Is this a different bill than from the one I thought we were talking about? Because I thought we were talking about school safety? said Rep. Elizabeth Porter, a Republican from Lake City. "I've heard that all of a sudden the folks that had been proponents of teachers all these years are saying teachers are now incompetent to have a concealed weapon permit. They're racist, they're bigoted, they're going to target black boys and brown boys. I don't think that's our teachers at all." 522

UPDATE 2:33 PM(AP) — California officials bracing for long lines are urging patience as voters cast ballots on “Super Tuesday” in what could be record turnout for a presidential primary election. A fraction of the 20.7 million registered voters in the heavily Democratic state has already returned ballots in early voting. Early voting started last month, but officials expect the bulk of ballots to be cast Tuesday. Enthusiasm is high for the election, which was moved up from its usual spot in June. But the election also coincides with a number of changes aimed at expanding voter participation and those changes may end up confusing voters or contributing to longer lines. 676

We cover sensory cognition, physical cognition, spatial cognition, social cognition, and self-awareness, the study reads."Although the comparisons are incomplete...we conclude that dog cognition is influenced by the membership of all three of these groups, and taking all three groups into account, dog cognition does not look exceptional."The good news is, there are a lot of different ways the study explores intelligence, which means you are free to cherry pick the parts in which dogs did as well, if not better, than other animals to make yourself feel better. For instance, while they're not particularly great at physical cognition (interacting with and understanding objects around them), dogs seem to be at least average, if not ever-so-slightly above average, when it comes to social cognition, especially when they are taking cues from humans.Still, the study concludes, "when a broad-enough set of comparison species is considered, there is no current case for canine exceptionalism."Frankly, we feel attacked. This all may be hard to hear, but please remember that your sweet and wonderful doggo is gifted in many other ways, and you need to remind them that their self-worth should not be based in their rather average level of animal cognition. 1257

Two of the officers seen in the above photo were fired for unbecoming conduct. The officer in the photo wearing a hat resigned earlier this week. A third officer who responded to a text message containing these photos was also fired. One of the involved officers, Jason Rosenblatt, was also involved in the arrest of McClain, who suffered a heart attack and died after the encounter.Rosenblatt was not in the photograph but received the photo and replied, "HaHa," Wilson said.Aurora police on Friday released the pictures of the officers: Erica Marrero, Kyle Dittrich and Jaron Jones. Jones resigned before he was disciplined in the matter. Marrero and Dittrich were fired, along with RosenblattThe Aurora Police Association union called the investigation into the photo "a rush to judgment" and said Wilson violated the involved officers' due process rights.Wilson called the photograph "reprehensible" and said Rosenblatt's involvement in the incident by replying to the picture was "absolutely unacceptable."The photographs showed three officers imitating the carotid hold used on McClain, who suffered a heart attack and died after the August encounter with police. The union called the investigation into the photo "a rush to judgement" and said Wilson violated the involved officers' due process rights.McClain's death became the subject of renewed scrutiny in recent weeks, following the killing of George Floyd and widespread calls for social justice across the country.McClain, 23, was unarmed when he was encountered by Aurora police on Aug. 24, 2019. Police put McClain in a carotid hold, which limits blood flow to the brain, after stopping him while he was walking home. When he became unresponsive, paramedics gave him ketamine, police have said.McClain had a heart attack and died six days later. The officers involved in McClain's death were not arrested or charged, despite continued calls for justice from McClain's family and supporters. In June, as McClain's death garnered national interest, Gov. Jared Polis appointed Attorney General Phil Weiser to investigate the officers' actions. 2103
