SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The city of San Diego has a long to-do list when it comes to improving their Bridge homeless shelters. On Saturday morning, 300 people moved into the new Alpha Project bridge shelter in East Village, after the facility was flooded on December 6th. But for all of those residents, their stay is temporary. “This exists for one reason. To help people get back onto their feet. To help them get that apartment, and get that job,” Mayor Kevin Faulconer said while pointing at the mended Alpha Project tent.After contaminated flood water inundated the area, the city scrambled for a week to reopen the shelter. For nine days, residents spent their nights at SDCCU stadium. Once the East Village facility was sterilized and fixed, residents were bused back and moved into their bunks Saturday morning. But the city faces several other challenges. According to FEMA, the improved Alpha Project tent housing sits directly on top of a floodplain. Instead of rebuilding on a lower-risk area, the city decided to rehouse 325 residents in the same spot. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Food and Drug Administration has recalled several types of tattoo ink after determining they were contaminated with bacteria. One of them is the popular black ink made by Dynamic Color. The FDA found that two of their lots tested positive for microorganisms. The recall includes all bottles of Scalpaink SC, Scalpaink PA, and Scalpaink AL basic black tattoo inks manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics. One lot of Color Art’s red Solid Ink-Diablo was also included. Tattoo shops across the country were contacted through their local health departments about the recall. One of the largest tattoo parlors in San Diego, SD Tattoo, says they got the email Wednesday morning and immediately searched through their inks.They did have the Dynamic black ink, but tattoo artist Nicki Ninteman said, "We checked all the lot numbers and all of ours are clean, so we’re good."She said they didn't have either of the other two brands in the shop.According to the FDA, people who have been tattooed with contaminated ink can experience rashes or lesions of red papules. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The fire on the USS Bonhomme Richard has impacted every sailor who works on the ship, but also those who live on the ship. To help, groups have stepped up to accept donations to give to the people who have been displaced. The Navy Life Naval Base San Diego Facebook page posted a warning to watch out for fake GoFundMe or charity request pages, and said the government is not allowed to accept donated funds to fix or replace the ship.Related: Crews battle USS Bonhomme Richard fire for fourth dayThe post highlighted three official groups to donate to who are safe and reliable: Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which is accepting online payments and mailed in checks to be donated to sailors,Support the Enlisted Project, which is accepting all types of donations, andUSO San Diego, which is also accepting all types of donations.Gillian Gonzalez, with the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, said more than 80 sailors lost all of their belongings in the fire. Her group immediately bought gift cards for sailors displaced and they’re working on replacing uniforms as well. She advises that people who make donations to their group specify that their donation should go to the USS Bonhomme Richard sailors directly.The USO office is taking every type of donation, from hygienic items to clothes. Executive Director Ashley Camac said they’ve taken loads of items to the ship every day since the fire started.“It might have been where they lived. It certainly is where they worked. So when you bring product to them and you bring toiletries to them and you bring essential needed items, there’s a smile that happens, there’s a sense of relief,” said Camac. 1682

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Carte Hotel in the heart of Little Italy is not nearly as full as it could be.It had been open just a few months before the pandemic hit, "We had a great start until March and the virus started showing up," said general manager Henri Birmele.Like many other hotels in California, The Carte is only allowed to book rooms for essential workers.But staff is preparing for when the Governor says they can fully reopen. "We have sanitizers on every floor, every piece of equipment that's available we have throughout the building to take care of team members and hotel guests," Birmele said Common areas will be sanitized every hour, the restaurant and rooftop bar will be spaced out to make it easier to social distance, valet service won't be available, there will be at least 12 hours and a deep clean between when one person checks out and another checks in and room service will leave orders at the door instead of bringing them in. The Carte is hoping to ease people back into hotels by encouraging "staycations" and planning to offer locals discounts and deals. "How people react, I don't know. I think time will tell.
