CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A pedestrian died Friday night following a crash along Main Street in Chula Vista, police say. According to police, the incident happened near the intersection of Main Street and Del Monte Avenue around 9:30 p.m.After arriving on scene, officers found the injured man in the eastbound lane of Main Street. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.At this time, the circumstances of the crash are under investigation, but the department says the driver stayed on scene and cooperated.Alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor in the crash, police say. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old who reportedly made a social media threat against Bonita Vista High School was arrested Tuesday, police say. According to police, officials discovered that the juvenile was responsible for the second of two threats against the school. "The juvenile told police that he had seen the first threat online and decided to 'join-in' to further scare people. He said he thought it would be funny," police said. The teenager was arrested for making criminal threats and is expected to be released to his parents. I like some of you. CHICAGO, Illinois — People are caught on camera an average of 75 times a day.But there is now some new technology hitting the market that can hide a person's face from some of those."Baby Driver" is the latest Hollywood movie to use crazy fashionable technology to commit crimes like robbing banks. The truth is they may not be that far off. Scott Urban, the creator of Reflectacles, says his product helps bounce light back directly to where it came from.“One of my past clients came up to me and asked me to make him a pair of reflective glasses," Urban said.The glasses don't make a person invisible, but can throw off security cameras. One of his biggest concerns is privacy.“You know if you have this concept that you're being filmed and recorded and listened to everywhere you go, you might limit your own personal freedoms," he said.The glasses reflect light into the camera creating a blown out glow.Our reporter found the glasses work really well when it's dark, but in broad sunlight, not so much.Scott's gear got him in a bit of trouble at the neighborhood bar he goes to often. They asked him to take off his glasses. Katrina Arthur, the manager and fourth generation's family owner of Archie's Iowa & Rockwell Tavern, said, “We want to be sure if anything were to happen and go back and look at our security tapes and be able to identify anybody who may have caused an incident."Our reporters also found reflective glasses aren't the only option out there. The ISHU cloak is made by entrepreneur Saif Siddiqui, who feels strongly about privacy as well.“It's just the option of going invisible," Siddiqui said.He sells anti-paparazzi gear. Siddiqui's clothing does nearly the same thing as the glasses — gives back some privacy.“I find it important to give people the option to not be seen," he said.But these option may be short-lived. Security companies are taking notice of this new technology and working to stay ahead of it.“There are ways to make cameras that can see everybody's face, and I suppose it can be a cat and mouse game or I invest in better and better technology to hide my face."Keith Jentoft, is a video surveillance expert with more than 20 years in the business. He believes this type of tech actually does the opposite of what's intended because it sticks out."You're going to be calling yourself out and calling attention to yourself. If you're spending a lot of money to be private, people want to know why," Jentoft said.Scott Urban knows his gear isn't for everyone but says there's something bigger to consider.“Is it ok for you to tell me that my face must be recorded and analyzed everywhere I go?" (KGTV)- The Chula Vista Police Department is debuting a first-of-its-kind program allowing officers to listen in on 911 calls in real time.If you live in Chula Vista and need to call to 911, there's a good chance the person who takes your call won't be the only one listening."Essentially the community is talking directly to officers and getting that information relayed to them immediately," said Lt. Don Redmond, who oversaw the project.The brainchild of a Chula Vista police officer, the department partnered with HigherGround, a dispatch software company, to create Live 911, which allows officers to hear 911 calls inside their vehicles. Here's how it works. Patrol officers can pick an area near them - say a half-mile radius - and listen to any 911 call as it comes in."They're hearing real-time information, as opposed to the inherent delays in dispatching," said Lt. Redmond.Right now, 911 calls are taken by a person who inputs information. A dispatcher reads that information and radios officers to respond. Lt. Redmond says that process can take several minutes. Those minutes could become critical."If it save us two or three minutes, that could be a life that we save," said Lt. Redmond.After a six-month test, Live911 went into all police vehicles in mid-May. Already, there have been examples of quicker response times. On one occasion, an officer got to a home within a few minutes - in the middle of the 911 call - and rendered medical aid. Lt. Redmond says Live911 will also help officers respond better. Because dispatch can relay only so much information, officers in the past only got part of the picture."The officers can hear everything, they are picking up on clues that could be left out," said Lt. Redmond.Those clues could include a person's tone and urgency, and any details that could help an officer better assess or deescalate a situation."We feel like Live911 can be a game changer for law enforcement in general," said Lt. (KGTV) — A Chula Vista man says he got a screeching, costly surprise after he started his car Wednesday morning.Along Regency Way, just before 6:30 a.m., Jimmy got into his Toyota Corolla S, which was parked in the street."Started the car. As I was pulling out, felt my car lurch to the side," said Jimmy, who asked us not to use his last name.The lurch came amid the most awful of noises."Pretty much like a crash ... felt the scraping of my rotor on the asphalt ... and then pretty much my car slammed into the asphalt itself. Traumatized and scared of what happened," said Jimmy.His heart sank as he got out and stared at the driver's side wheels, which had fallen off."My lug nuts were completely missing, all ten of them on the left side," said Jimmy.His repair estimate: a staggering ,500. He's insured with a 0 deductible. "Every little cost affects you. It matters," said Jimmy.Jimmy's vehicle was not the only target. Two blocks away the same morning, another driver shared a similar fate because of stolen lug nuts. A member of the HOA board for the nearby condos told 10news that a month ago, there were reports of a car with loosened lug nuts. The motive of the incidents remain unknown. Jimmy doesn't believe he was personally targeted, but he's fearful the thief will be back at it again. "It could have cost my life or another driver's life.
