The annual Perseid meteor shower is underway and will hit its peak this weekend.The meteor shower, so named because the meteors appear to come from the constellation Perseus, lasts for several weeks – from July 17 to Aug. 24 – but peak meteor activity will take place between about 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 12 and 4 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, according to NASA.During the peak, one can expect to see as many as 60 or 70 meteors per hour.Night sky conditions should be great for meteor viewing: The peak coincides perfectly with the new moon, meaning the sky will be plenty dark and meteors will be easy to spot. Most meteor showers are best after midnight. 702

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Bryshere Gray, an actor on the TV show "Empire," was arrested Sunday night in connection with a domestic violence incident at a Goodyear home.According to Goodyear police, officers responded to reports that a woman had been assaulted and arrived at a Circle K at Estrella Parkway and McDowell Road around 10:15 p.m.Police said the victim flagged down a citizen shortly before at another gas station and said she had been assaulted at her home "for several hours" by her husband, who she identified as Bryshere Gray.The victim was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries, and Goodyear detectives and victims' advocates continued to assist after she was discharged from the hospital.When officers tried to contact Gray at his home near Estrella Parkway and Westar Drive, he refused to come out and speak with the police.Goodyear SWAT and Crisis Negotiations were called to the scene to assist.According to police, Gray surrendered without incident just after 7 a.m. Monday. He was taken into custody and will be booked on domestic violence charges.Gray portrays Hakeem Lyon on "Empire." GLENDALE, Wisconsin -- A woman filed a civil lawsuit against four members of the Glendale Police Department. The suit filed in federal court is demanding million.She claims the investigation into a dog attack that took place in March 2017 was not handled properly. The suit claims the woman was attacked by a 3-year-old Presa Canario and suffered injuries to her head, back and wrist that required more than 140 medical treatments, including 11 staples in her scalp, puncture wounds on her back and an injured wrist, which needed three surgeries to fix.A police report from the incident claims that her hand was "completely covered in blood and her hair appeared to be blood soaked."The woman also claimed the attack resulted in emotional trauma.The dog qas temporarily quarantined for 10 days. The woman also claims that police were not aware of procedure for dog attacks.The woman no charges were filed in the incident, and when she called repeatedly for an update in the investigation, a sergeant told her that "f you don't like the way we handle this get yourself an attorney and sue us."Both the Glendale police chief and the city's attorney declined to comment, citing pending litigation.Glendale City Attorney John Fuchs issued the following statement."She went into the dog's yard and approached the dog. Most of these processes pertain to dogs at large, not to people who enter upon the premises of another and engage the dog." 1472

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- There's nothing like a cold ice cream cone on a hot day. On Wednesday, a large group of second grade students from Greenwood Schools got to take a field trip over to a local ice cream shop after reaching their reading goals.The students who earned 50 Accelerated Reading (AR) points got the sweet treat from Mrs. Curl's Ice Cream Shop. Fifty points is the equivalent of reading 100 books -- quite the accomplishment for these young readers. "This year we had more kids than ever before," said teacher Amber Ploutz in a Facebook post. "So you can imagine it was quite a sight, all of us walking down."As the group of students crossed the city streets, they walked past a group of construction workers. Ploutz said one of the workers out front heard that the students were being treated to ice cream for reaching their reading goals. Instead of just congratulating the students, he took it a step forward and really made their day."He paid for all 54 kids' ice cream cones," said Ploutz. "He didn't want any recognition and said he did it because he was proud of all the hard work they put into school and told them to keep up the great reading."In return, Mrs. Curl's Ice Cream Shop paid that man's good deed forward. The shop gave out free drinks and ice cream to all members of the road crew and also to the police officers helping direct traffic in the area.The worker didn't want any recognition for his random act of kindness, and only gave students his nickname, to remain anonymous. He said people call him, Bub."So thank you, Bub," said Ploutz. "Today was a day these kiddos and I will never forget."   1686
