NEW YORK CITY — Police are looking for two suspects they say attacked a woman who asked them to put on masks in a Brooklyn subway station.Authorities said the assault occurred inside the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station last Friday afternoon.According to the NYPD, as a man and a woman were about to get on a station elevator, the 60-year-old victim asked if they could wear a mask if they wanted to ride the elevator with her.According to police, the pair refused. Surveillance video shows the two try to forcefully push past her.When the woman tried to prevent them from getting on the elevator with her, the two suspects hit her repeatedly in the face and body, authorities said. The male and female then fled the scene.Police said the victim suffered bruising to her face and pain to her legs. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released.The male suspect is between the ages of 16 and 20 and was last seen wearing a black knit cap, a black coat, gray pants, and a light-colored backpack.The female suspect is also thought to be between the ages of 16 and 20 and was last seen wearing a black-and-white sweater, dark-colored pants, and carrying a black backpack.This story was originally published by Mark Sundstrom on WPIX in New York City. 1285

New details in the case of 13-year-old Patricia Alatorre who was allegedly raped and murdered last week by a man from Los Angeles who she communicated with on social media. The details in those court documents are very graphic, much of which wouldn't be appropriate to release.It was in the neighborhood near Wible Rd and Hosking Ave where police say 13-year-old Patricia Alatorre was kidnapped near her home last week. Documents revealed a lot of information about how she communicated with her suspected 24-year-old killer, the kind of communication they had prior to her death, and the tragic way she lost her life."That's sad. That's unacceptable. We don't want anybody killed, but it's incredibly sad when people kill children," said Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer.Zimmer shared her thoughts after court documents were released Wednesday morning detailing the tragic events leading up to Alatorre's death. Officials said she was killed in South Bakersfield shortly after midnight on July 2nd after 24-year-old Armando Cruz from Inglewood communicated with her on social media over the course of a week. They would send explicit photos to each other, according to documents.Things would take a turn for the worst, according to Bakersfield Police Sgt. Robert Pair."As you can imagine this is a particularly sensitive case. It's involving details that is especially graphic."Documents state Cruz convinced Alatorre to meet with him to engage in explicit acts on two occasions despite knowing she was only 13. He drove from Los Angeles to Bakersfield to meet her. On the second encounter, Cruz drove her around the block as she screamed, telling him she didn't want to go with him.It was about this time documents state she was raped. She tried to get up and physically struggled with Cruz and that's when he allegedly strangled her and tied her up with duct tape. He then took her body with him but the details following are too graphic to release.On Sunday night Cruz was arrested by BPD in Los Angeles County and brought back to Bakersfield. On Tuesday he was charged with 12 felony counts."The first count is first-degree murder and in connection with first-degree murder, I charged four special circumstances which carry the penalty of life without the possibility of parole, in prison, or the death penalty," explained Zimmer.Cruz has pleaded not guilty to that first-degree murder charge and all other felony charges, including kidnapping, and aggravated sexual assault. North Korea has agreed to refrain from conducting nuclear and missile tests while engaging in dialogue with South Korea, Seoul's national security chief Chung Eui-yong said Tuesday after returning from a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.Chung added that Pyongyang also expressed willingness to talk to the United States "in an open-ended dialogue to discuss the issue of denuclearization and to normalize relations with North Korea."Chung said that as part of the dialogue, the two Koreas would hold a summit next month, the first of its kind in more than a decade.The last inter-Korean summit was in 2007, when South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun met Kim's father, late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.The meeting will be held at the Panmunjom Peace House on the South Korean side of the demilitarized zone that divides the two countries, Chung said.Pyongyang and Seoul will also open a communication hotline that will enable Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in to speak directly.Moon sent Chung and four other top government officials to Pyongyang Monday, when they met with Kim and some of his top aides.It's believed to be the first time the young North Korean leader has ever met with any officials from South Korea since taking power in 2011.Developing story - more to come  1312

New coronavirus cases in the U.S. have surged to their highest level in two months and are now back to where they were at the peak of the outbreak.The U.S. on Tuesday reported 34,700 new cases of the virus, according to a tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University that was published Wednesday. There have been only two previous days that the U.S. has reported more cases: April 9 and April 24, when a record 36,400 cases were logged.New cases in the U.S. have been surging for more than a week after trending down for more than six weeks. While early hot spots like New York and New Jersey have seen cases steadily decrease, the virus has been hitting the south and west. Several states on Tuesday set single-day records, including Arizona, California, Mississippi, Nevada and Texas.Cases were also surging in other parts of the world. India reported a record daily increase of nearly 16,000 new cases.
