SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Yuma Police officer testified Tuesday in his trial for the rape of a woman in Kensington.Jared Elkins, 34, raped his wife’s cousin after a family gathering at her home on Marlborough Drive last year, prosecutors said. The group had been out to dinner, then watched a movie while drinking beer and wine at home.She testified last week, saying she didn’t yell during the alleged attack because Elkins threatened to kill her. His wife was asleep across the hall at the time.After the encounter, the woman said she ran into her mother’s room for help, and they both escaped out a window.At a hospital, the alleged victim's blood-alcohol level was determined to be .09 percent, according to witness testimony.Police said Elkins told them that the sex was consensual and the rape charges were made out of guilt.Elkins told the jury the alleged victim started flirting with him after everyone else went to sleep.“There was mutual flirtations between the two of us and we were being adults,” said Elkins, who testified the woman was “cuddling, almost snuggling” with him.“She said yeah, it was surprising to me; I was excited a younger attractive woman, you know, it kind of confirmed everything on the couch,” Elkins said.Elkins resigned from the Yuma Police Department in 2017. He is facing nine felony counts including forcible rape and could serve 14 years in prison if convicted.City News Service contributed to this report. 1462

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A driver and motorcyclist collided in the Marina District Saturday, before the driver took off.A 44-year-old motorcycle rider was traveling westbound on Market St., approaching 1st Ave., just before 2:20 a.m. Saturday, San Diego Police says. At that time, a black sedan heading eastbound Market St. made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the bike to collide with the car.The motorcyclist suffered a fractured wrist, police said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A connecting trolley line to San Diego's airport has taken another step closer to reality.Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly signed an exclusive agreement at the Pentagon Thursday to redevelop the former SPAWAR facility, now "NAVWAR," into a transit hub. SANDAG and Navy plan to collaborate on a hub similar to "Grand Central Station" adjacent to the airport, as well as a modernized complex for Navy use."This new agreement is built on San Diego's strong naval heritage," Faulconer said. "The fact that it was signed by the Acting Secretary of the Navy inside the Pentagon sends the undeniable message that there is momentum and energy in both Washington, D.C. and San Diego to do something truly special with this property. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) -- A San Diego County deputy facing charges that he groped 13 women was arrested again Thursday on five new charges, including forcible oral copulation.Richard Fischer, 32, is being held on million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in a Vista courtroom.Fischer faces more than 10 years if convicted on the new charges, according to the District Attorney. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 91-year-old woman died and a younger woman was injured in a crash in Clairemont Friday. The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of Balboa Avenue, near Mt. Alifan Drive, authorities said.The older woman was driving south on Mt. Alifan in a gray Toyota Camry. Police said the Camry and a car driven by a 32-year-old woman collided in the intersection of Balboa Ave.Wreckage was strewn across the Auto Zone parking lot at 6085 Balboa Ave.The 91-year-old woman, who has not been identified, died at the scene. The younger woman suffered minor scrapes and bruises, police said.The cause of the collision is unknown.
