In a heartbreaking Facebook post, a Maryland animal shelter announced they found a puppy with its ears cut off tied to a tree in Baltimore. BARCS say they got a call saying someone had found two dogs tied to a tree and several other puppies in an empty lot. When the officer arrived, they found one of the puppies was bleeding from the head and the other puppies were for sale. The puppies were immediately taken to BARCS where they were seen by a vet. They named the injured dog Claude and determined that his ears were removed using poor instruments, like household objects, leaving him with tissue damage, pain, and infection. Claude is only 10 weeks old and BARCS says he is trying to do normal puppy things, but cannot because of the pain. He received emergency surgery but the veterinarians had to remove untreated infected tissue, so he lost even more of his ear structure. BARCS is now asking for money so they can continue to help Claude so he can find a loving home and recover. IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) — Some South Bay parents are upset after they say their elementary school abruptly canceled an annual Christmas tradition out of deference to families who do not observe the holiday.For years, students at Oneonta Elementary School in Imperial Beach had a December assembly featuring Christmas decorations, Christmas songs and a visit from Santa.This year’s December assembly was held Friday without a Christmas show. Teachers learned of the change Wednesday, according to 6th grade parent Jose Cariman.“No notice to the parents. No notice to the teachers, no advance notice for anything,” he said. “What are they teaching [the students]? Governor Gavin Newsom announced the decision Friday after the number of COVID-19 infections continues to rise.Former San Diegan, Bob Diaz, has called the small city of Imperial, 'home' since 1998. He says he loves desert landscapes, and the relatively quick drive to visit his family in San Diego. Since the quarantine began in March, he has not seen them at all."I wish I could," Diaz said. "There are so many parks, the beach, the downtown, the Embarcadero, places that I love to go. But you know what? It's not worth the gamble."The 66-year-old says because of his age, he is taking the lockdown seriously."I knew that the numbers were looking pretty ugly," Diaz said.Friday, Governor Newsom and state officials mentioned Imperial County's data in a press conference."I noted a positivity rate over a 14-day period in the state of California at 5.3 percent.
