Andrew Cuomo has signed into law Thursday a bill that prohibits the sale of the Confederate flag and other "symbols of hate" at the New York State Fair, and bans the display of those items in public buildings.The bill was sponsored by state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, D-Bronx, Westchester, and "prohibits the state of New York from selling or displaying symbols of hate or any similar image, or tangible personal property, inscribed with such an image unless the image appears in a book, digital medium, museum or serves an educational or historical purpose."According to the bill, a "symbol of hate" is defined as "symbols of white supremacist and neo-Nazi ideology or the Battle Flag of the Confederacy."The bill also empowers the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Markets to prohibit the sale of "symbols of hate" at any other fairs in New York that receive federal, local or state funding."This bill would limit the display of the Confederate flag, as well as other symbols of hate, on or within the grounds of public property, including fairgrounds. NEW YORK CITY — Two men have been indicted in the 2002 murder of Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, officials announced on Monday.The hip-hop star, whose real name is Jason Mizell, was shot and killed in his recording studio in Queens on Oct. 30, 2002. His fellow group members, Joseph "Run" Simmons and Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, were not in the second-floor studio on Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica when the gunfire broke out.The hip-hop legend was known for his Adidas wardrobe, black hat, leather jacket, and large, gold chain. As a DJ, he had hands of gold.The NYPD said Jam Master Jay was part of a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that led to his murder, and said the DJ had threatened to cut one of his alleged killers out of a deal with a Maryland distributor.Jay was playing video games on a couch in the studio shortly before two men were buzzed in by his assistant, Lydia High. NEW YOR CITY — A massive sinkhole swallowed an SUV in the Maspeth neighborhood of Queens on Thursday.Police said a Toyota SUV was discovered with the front end of the car in the sinkhole early Thanksgiving morning on 70th Street near 52nd Avenue.Councilman Robert Holden shared photos of the shocking scene on Twitter.Police said no one was inside the SUV at the time.
