OAKLAND, Calif. — A bust of Breonna Taylor was vandalized in Oakland, California.The Oakland Police Department is investigating after large pieces of the statue were found broken off sometime over the weekend, KGO and KTVU report.The sculpture was made by artist Lee Carson to honor the 26-year-old EMT who was shot and killed in her apartment by Louisville police officers in March. The deaths of Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery prompted countless people across the country to take to the streets over the summer to protest police violence against people of color.Carson told KTVU that he hoped the piece would energize the Black Lives Matter movement, which seeks to eradicate white supremacy and intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities.Carson told KGO that the vandalism felt like an attack on Taylor and those fighting against racial injustice.The statue is made of clay, concrete, wood and foam, and was reportedly installed in the downtown area this month. Marguerite Cruz, who is a co-owner of Te Mana Cafe, said someone broke into her restaurant early morning on Valentine’s Day. “I just felt really attacked,” she said with tears in her eyes.She said the burglary was caught on multiple surveillance cameras. The video shows the person crawling in through a window, then using some sort of took to dislodge the cash drawer from the register. A couple weeks ago, less than two blocks away, a criminal was caught on camera breaking into Pat’s Liquor and stealing the entire cash register. Police have not said if they think it is the same criminal, but Cruz seemed certain. “I think this person’s on a roll,” she said.  777

(KGTV) — One person is presumed dead after going underwater as rescue personnel tried to save them.Oceanside Fire Department was called to rescue a person in the water near Oceanside Pier just after 3 a.m. Saturday, according to the department. A person was located clinging to a pylon.A rescue swimmer dove into the water to help the person, simultaneously while the person let go of the pylon and went underwater, OFD says.Rescuers continued to search the surrounding waters for the victim but were unable to locate them. Crews suspended searching the area for the individual after several hours Saturday. 633
