SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting U.S. President Barack Obama said here Monday that Shanghai and Chicago can learn from each other especially on clean energy.     He made the remarks during a dialogue with Chinese students at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It is his first trip to China since taking office in January.     "It's a terrific opportunity for us to learn from each other," he said.     "In the United States we are learning how to develop buildings that use much less energy and that are much more energy-efficient. I noticed in Shanghai many new buildings are growing up. It's important to incorporate these new technologies so that each building is energy-efficient when it comes to lighting, when it comes to heating," he said.     Clean energy issue is going to be a major focus in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, he said.     Shanghai and Chicago have been sister cities since 1985.

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Thursday urged improving the quality of Party officials at grassroots level.     Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks here while meeting with Wang Boxiang, former secretary of a county committee of the CPC, whom Xi described as the model of such officials in the new period.     Wang, born in 1943, has been a local official for more than 30 years and won praises for keeping a just and thrifty working style.     From 1986 to 1991, he was Secretary of the Shouguang County Committee of the CPC in east China's Shandong Province. He led local people to promote greenhouse vegetable production, develop alkaline soil, and launch industrial projects, which greatly boosted local economic growth and solved the imbalance of development between north and south of the county.     Xi said Wang helped build a solid material foundation for the county's development and won acclaim from both local officials and people with his hard work and uncorrupted behaviors.     Xi called upon other Party members and officials to learn from Wang and seek benefits for people while at the same time maintain a clean style in life and work.

BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met here Friday with his Uzbekistan counterpart Elyar Ganiev, pledging to promote the healthy and sustainable development of economic and trade ties.     Wang conveyed congratulation on the success of the eighth session of the China-Uzbekistan Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee.     He said since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, high-level exchanges were frequent and the cooperation in such areas as economic and trade, energy and security were ever expanding. BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will meet here Wednesday with US President Barack Obama, who is on his first state visit to China since his January inauguration.     They will have a working lunch before Obama's sightseeing visit to the Great Wall in the north suburb of the Chinese capital, which will be another chance for the US head of state, who toured the Imperial Palace Tuesday, to learn more about the ancient Chinese civilization.     Obama will conclude his fist visit to China and fly to the Republic of Korea, the last leg of his four-state Asian tour, in the afternoon.     He arrived in China's economic hub Shanghai Sunday night to kick off this visit as guest of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao.     Hu held talks with him in Beijing on Tuesday and they met international reporters for about 40 minutes after the talks, both pledging to further bilateral ties.     Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo also met Obama on Tuesday, several hours before a state banquet in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.     In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the two sides spoke highly of the tremendous development achieved since the two countries established diplomatic relations 30 years ago and reached consensus on further bilateral ties.
