AURORA, Colo. — The dog that was used by an Aurora, Colo. couple for sex acts was deemed not safe for adoption and was euthanized Tuesday.Jenee Shipman, manager at the Aurora Animal Shelter, wrote in a letter to the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office that the dog, which was a male Akita mix named Bubba, was not a safe candidate for adoption or transfer based on its history and behavior in the kennel.“The dog has exhibited unpredictable behavior, and shows signs of aggression towards veterinary services staff, volunteers, community service workers and staff members that the dog is not especially familiar with (staff who clean, feed, provide enrichment and treats daily),” the letter reads.Michael Bryant, the senior public information officer with the city of Aurora, confirmed that the dog had been humanely euthanized Tuesday after the couple’s sentencing.Court documents say that the animal's abuse occurred between July 1, 2016 and March 27, 2017. In March, Janette Solano, 49, and Frederick Manzanares, 51, were charged with animal cruelty and accused of having sex with their dog in a backyard motorhome.Solano, the ex-girlfriend of Manzanares, pleaded guilty to cruelty and animal neglect on July 30, according to court documents. Per her plea agreement, her three subsequent charges to cruelty and neglect of animals were dismissed by the district attorney. Manzanares, 51, pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty. At a White House news conference on Friday, leaders of Operation Warp Speed said that two coronavirus vaccines could receive emergency use authorization from the FDA in the coming weeks.In addition, Dr. Moncef Slaoui, who is the scientific head of Operation Warp Speed, projected that up to 20 million coronavirus vaccines could be shipped by the end of the year."If approved, they could be used for immunization in the U.S. population in the month of December," Slaoui said. "And we plan to have enough vaccine doses available for use in the U.S. population to immunize about 20 million individuals in the month of December, and another 25 to 30 million per month on an ongoing basis thereon."Given that doses of the two vaccines come in two doses, it could take many months and be well into 2021 before the majority of the American population is vaccinated against the coronavirus.The update came as the virus spreads throughout the country at an alarming and uncontrolled rate. At least 100,000 Americans are confirmed to have contracted the virus every day for the last 10 days, culminating in a record-shattering 153,000 cases on Thursday. As survivors describe the terror-filled moments after a student opened fire at Santa Fe High School, killing 10 people, stories of heroism are coming to light.One of them is about Christian "Riley" Garcia, a student who showed remarkable courage and selflessness during the shooting.Garcia, 15, died Friday while blocking an art classroom door to keep other students safe from the gunshots, said the family's pastor, Keenan Smith."He was holding the door shut when the shooter was trying to gain access into that art room ... the shooter shot through the door, taking his (Garcia's) life," Smith told CNN. But Garcia succeeded in holding the shooter back long enough to allow other students to escape out a back exit to safety.The pastor said he was with Garcia's family Friday night when other students told officials that the teen had saved their lives."He was against the door trying to help his teacher, trying to help another student, and trying to shield the others there," Smith said."That's not what's supposed to happen to a 15-year-old's life that he has to make those decisions. But he made them without even thinking about it, because it was his heart. This is who he was as an individual."Smith who baptized Garcia, described him as a fun-loving kid who loved football and enjoyed being outdoors. He hopes Garcia's brave sacrifice will bring some comfort to his family."This doesn't ease the pain any. BALTIMORE - A woman and man are dead and at least seven other people are seriously hurt after a gas explosion caused three homes to collapse Monday morning in Northwest Baltimore.As rescue crews and K-9's continued combing through the rubble overnight, a man's body was discovered just before 1 a.m. Tuesday. He is the second reported death related to the incident.A family member on Tuesday afternoon confirmed to WMAR-2 News, that the man found was 20-year-old Morgan State student Joseph Graham.Authorities haven't officially released the names of any of the victims.The explosion happened just before 10 a.m. near the Plaza in the area of Labyrinth and Reisterstown Roads, prompting a three-alarm response from 200 rescue crews from multiple cities and surrounding county agencies.About 200 people were impacted, including 30 who needed temporary housing.The American Red Cross is helping them with food, shelter, transportation, and medical services, while the city works to make sure the homes still standing are structurally sound.PHOTO GALLERY: DEADLY EXPLOSION TURNS NW BALTIMORE HOMES INTO RUBBLEBGE was able to turn gas off in the area by 9 p.m. Monday.Meanwhile, some electric lines were damaged causing power outages, but they've since been repaired with all power having been restored in the neighborhood.Investigators are looking into whether any customer-owned home utility appliances potentially contributed to the explosion.So far BGE says they've been unable to find any leaks or problems with gas mains and meters in the area.Prior to the explosion, BGE said they received no reports of gas odors or leaks at any of the homes in the last five years.The area’s gas infrastructure was installed in the early 1960s and was last inspected in July of 2019.Maryland's Vital Records building was forced to close for the rest of the day, following the explosion.WMAR-2 News spoke with two witnesses who explained what they heard and saw, and how they rushed to help. As mixed messages continue regarding face coverings, Mississippi became the first state to lift a statewide mask mandate. Cities and towns can now put their own rules in place.The governor said the facts and data still show masks work, and the state is still requiring them at certain events, including the state fair that starts this week.“I suspect Mississippi will see an increase in cases if people stop wearing face coverings,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security.Infectious disease experts remind people just because an order may be lifted, doesn't mean they should stop wearing masks.“We have to have an effective vaccine to prevent people from getting infected as well as prevent them from getting severe disease, that we had adequate testing capacity so people could know their status and wouldn't go out into public if they were positive,” said Adalja. “I think short of that, masks are going to be one tool that we have to continue to use and many people are going to get accustomed to masks and they're going to realize that masks also likely have some impact on other respiratory viruses, so we may see mask wearing much more common in the United States, similar to what it is in other Asian countries, because of the value people are gaining from them.”New research on homemade cloth masks found they expel invisible cotton fibers into the air.
