SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries after their small engine plane crashed near Montgomery Field Airport on Thursday afternoon.The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. near the executive airport at Kearny Villa Road and Balboa Avenue.According to the San Diego Police Department, a witness said the plane crashed behind a building near the airport and was helping the pilot.The plane had just taken off from the airport when it clipped trees and crash landed in an open space behind the Kyocera business building on Balboa Avenue, said Dan Eddy, Battalion Chief of the San Diego Fire Department Two male passengers were responsive when crews arrived but were transported with major injuries.Police said there was no active fire and no structures or vehicles were damaged.Eddy estimated at least 20 gallons of fuel spilled from the wrecked plane.The plane missed a high voltage area by about 30 feet, said Eddy.No further information was provided at this time. 1004

The red curb at Abbott Street and Santa Monica Avenue got the attention of neighbors. Diana Webster has lived in the community for 66 years and said people have been getting active with spray paint. “On Friday, five scooters were parked in there and on Saturday, somebody had painted black where all the scooters should be parked. Sounds like there is some suspicious activity with spray cans, I guess so,” Webster said. “I think it’s pretty crazy someone got away with it,” said a neighbor identified as Rodrigo. The city said illegal red curbing happens regularly in parking-dense areas and the best way to take care of it is to report it through their Get It Done app. If the paint looks different than a typical red curb, it’s likely illegal, the city said. 910

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With unemployment near record lows through Labor Day, efforts are shifting from helping San Diegans get jobs to helping them land better ones.The San Diego Workforce Partnerships is teaming up with local employers to offer on-the-job training to workers so they can get certified and move up in their careers. The focus is currently on so-called middle-skill occupations, those that require something more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree. The state Employment Development Department says the five most in-demand middle-skill occupations in San Diego and Imperial Counties are accounting assistants, teacher assistants, medical assistants, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, and nursing assistants. The EDD says there are currently 2,500 openings for those positions. The Workforce Partnership recently teamed up with First Promise Care Service in El Cajon to offer its caregivers a two- to three-month certification program to become certified nursing assistants. "It does motivate because they know they're not just going to be there," said Dyna Jones, CEO of First Promise. "There's actually a promotion. There's growth, and people are looking for something like that."Jones said caregivers who complete the program could go from earning per hour to as much as as a team lead if they stay with the company. The Workforce Partnership has a new tool for San Diegans to look up information on different jobs, what they pay, and training requirements and opportunities.
