SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An enhanced federal mortgage program called Home Possible could turn into an early Christmas present for frustrated home buyers.Elias Delgado and his wife Margaret rent a home in Normal Heights, and have been on the hunt for their first home for about two years. As they save for a down payment, they've been outbid time after time. "I've almost deleted all the real estate apps. It's frustrating. It feels like we're done," said Delgado.Or maybe not. Enter Freddie Mac and a just-announced boost for home buyers. The expanded Home Possible mortgage program allows buyers to roll up their sleeves and turn their sweat equity into their down payment. The program allows borrowers to buy materials and do work themselves on the property before it closes, turning the appraised value of the makeover costs into the down payment.  868

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A senior "hero" leapt into action when she saw a man snatching a neighbor's package in the La Jolla area.On a quiet afternoon last week, Gillian Ackland was in her living room when she saw an unfamiliar white car park right in her cul-de-sac off Colima Street in Bird Rock."It felt kind of strange," said Ackland.Next door was a big package sitting outside her neighbor's door.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"The car suddenly starts backing up diagonally. I realize he's going for the package, and I run out the front door, saw him with the package and ran to his side of the car," said Ackland. Her neighbor's Ring camera captured it all. In the video, a man is seen walking up to the door, grabbing the big package and a smaller one. As he starts running to his car, so does Ackland, who yells, "That's not yours!" three times. He shoves the package in the back seat, but the door didn't fully close."There was adrenaline going," said Ackland.Ackland sensed her chance."I knew I had a few seconds and I could do something - and I did it," said Ackland. She opened the back door and tried to pull the package out. The package starts to fall out, but not far enough, as the car drives off. Ackland has no regrets."The injustice of all kept me going. I just felt it's not right, and I just thought I could get the package away from him," said Ackland.Another neighbor took a photo of the car showing an Uber sticker on the front windshield. Inside the package was a side table. She says the neighbor missing the package thanked her profusely. He told 10News she is a "superhero neighbor.""It's actually a little embarrassing," said Ackland. The video was shared on the "Neighbors by Ring" app."It's important that neighbors look out for each other. Some might call me crazy, but I think I'm adventurous. I've led an adventurous life and that's who I am," said Ackland.A police report was filed. 10News reached out to Uber and sent them the images of the driver and car, but have yet to hear back. 2049

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Talmadge woman feeling the impact of coronavirus says she's now worried about losing her apartment, despite a recent moratorium on evictions. In the past month, Dawn Longardino has now lost two jobs to the impact of coronavirus, both in the service industry."I'm freaking out," said Longardino.RELATED: San Diego leaders urge public to support local businesses amid outbreakShe filed for and began receiving unemployment benefits: 0 dollars every two weeks. That's just enough to cover her car payment, insurance and utilities at her apartment in Talmadge. She has a job offer from a local grocery, but the job doesn't start for another three weeks."I've never had this happen to me in my life. I'm nearly 50. It's just very new to me, and I'm an emotional wreck," said Longardino. Also stressing her out is not being able to pay her rent. It was due March 5. She says she explained why she needed extra time through a texting system set up by her the property management company, but never heard back. Then, over the weekend, she got some mail.RELATED: What's the difference? Cold vs. flu vs. coronavirus symptoms"Can't sleep since yesterday. I'm sick to my stomach," said Longardino. She got a letter from Cethron Property management, telling her she has three days to pay her rent of ,650 or give up her apartment, or her landlord could begin eviction proceedings."With this crisis, can't really move in with anyone. Initially stated crying. I've been a mess. Don't know what my options are other than living in my car with my dogs," said Longardino.RELATED: San Diego COVID-19 trackerLongardino is also confused, because of the moratorium on evictions approved by the San Diego City Council last Tuesday. David McCarthy, a tenants rights lawyer tell 10News landlords can legally send the notices, but the three-day period can't begin until the courts open, April 4 at the earliest. The eviction process typically takes six to eight weeks. When they do open, it's unclear if judges will even allow the eviction process to move through the courts. It does appear judges won't be issuing final eviction orders, in line with the moratorium. READ: San Diego City Council passes eviction moratorium, ratifies state of emergencyRob Adatto of Cethron Property Management issued the following statement:"Cethron Property Management and I personally have been extremely benevolent to Ms. Longardino … a notice to pay rent is a procedural requirement in order to protect the tenant from unscrupulous eviction action by a landlord. In this case, it was required of us by the property’s actual owner, our client, due to the challenge-filled payment history of this particular tenant – again predating and not related to the COVID-19 crisis. It is not a notice of eviction or any other sensational kind of document – that could only be effected by a Court, and as you may be aware, the local courts (and indeed, most every court system in the country) has deferred any eviction action for COVID-19 related failures to pay rent until after the crisis has passed. In Ms. Longardino’s case, the notice was necessary due to events that occurred prior to the COVID-19 crisis. It is unfortunate and undeserved that I and my company, who have helped Ms. Longardino in many tangible, meaningful ways over a long time horizon, are portrayed as uncaring or inhumane." 3379

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A surveillance photo released by the FBI and San Diego Police Tuesday may help them find the man who robbed a Clairemont bank. The white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, demanded cash from a teller at the Wells Fargo Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 4725 Clairemont Drive in Clairemont Town Centere on December 30.Police said the man used a note and no weapon was seen or used. The teller gave the man cash and he walked away.Investigators describe the man as about 5’11” with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, white shirt, red shorts, black sneakers and a baseball cap at the time of the robbery.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police. 713
