SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Palomar College will break ground today on a new on-site food pantry that will help meet the massive demand of students facing food insecurity.The future Anita and Stan Maag Food and Nutrition Center will offer a modern, bigger home for the college's food pantry, which has been in operation for over three decades. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) --  A man is in the hospital tonight after trying to save his dogs in an apartment fire. The Santee Villas Apartments were roaring in flames Thursday night. One of the residents headed directly into the danger zone trying to save his two chihuahua. Melanie Jaracz watched in horror as her neighbor risked his life climbing through a window."They busted out the windows to that," said Jaracz. "He tried climbing through that and they kept dragging him back. Nobody could get him to come out because he was so worried about his animals."Santee fire crews say it started in a bottom unit and quickly spread to three others around it. First responders tried to revive one of the dogs but it was too late. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.  887

(KGTV) -- Four juveniles were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after police said they sprayed a 7-Eleven clerk with a fire extinguisher and then proceeded to steal several items from the store.San Diego police said the incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. at a store on Cottonwood Road, near San Ysidro Boulevard, in San Ysidro.According to police, four juveniles entered the store and sprayed the clerk with a fire extinguisher before grabbing items such as alcohol and food.Officers responding to the incident spotted the group and pursued them on foot. The juveniles were eventually caught and taken into custody.Officers recovered the fire extinguisher and some of the items that were taken down the street from the store. 764
