VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a man they say was acting suspicious outside an Islamic center in Vista in late March. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the man was seen taking pictures on the Tri-City Islamic Center on March 30. When someone at the center saw the man taking pictures, they invited him inside. When the man saw there were people inside the center, he took off running, deputies say. Witnesses describe the man as Hispanic in his late 20s, about five feet, seven inches tall with a lean or muscular build, short, dark hair and a blonde beard. He was last seen wearing a red hat, dark gray sports coat and blue jeans. Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to call the department at 858-565-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. The incident happened shortly after a fire was set at an Escondido Mosque on March 24. The fire, which caused minimal damage the building, was extinguished by members of the mosque. WASHINGTON — The Justice Department is suing Walmart, alleging the company unlawfully dispensed controlled substances through its pharmacies, helping to fuel the opioid crisis in America. That's according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person says the civil complaint points to the role Walmart’s pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions and by unlawfully distributing controlled substances to the pharmacies during the height of the opioid crisis. The lawsuit claims Walmart wanted to boost profits and pressured employees to fill prescriptions quickly, according to the Wall Street Journal. “Walmart knew that its distribution centers were using an inadequate system for detecting and reporting suspicious orders,” said Jason Dunn, the U.S. attorney in Colorado. “As a result of this inadequate system, for years Walmart reported virtually no suspicious orders at all. In other words, Walmart’s pharmacies ordered opioids in a way that went essentially unmonitored and unregulated.”Walmart operates more than 5,000 pharmacies in its stores around the country. The Justice Department’s action comes nearly two months after Walmart filed its own preemptive suit against the federal government. Walmart's lawsuit at the time claimed the Justice Department and Drug Enforcement Administration were trying to scapegoat the store for what Walmart says are the federal government's own regulation shortcomings, according to the Wall Street Journal. (KGTV and CNS) - A Camp Pendleton Marine accused of driving drunk and causing a wrong-way crash that killed a father of two on a rural Bonsall-area road early on New Year's Day pleaded not guilty Friday. Adam Daniel Barooshian, 25, was allegedly speeding to the east on the westbound side of state Route 76 near Via Monserate shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday when his Lexus IS 300 hit an oncoming motorcycle ridden by 29-year-old Christopher Williams of Oceanside. At the time of the deadly collision, Williams was on his way home from his job as a security guard and emergency medical technician at Pauma Casino, according to the Oceanside Police Officers' Association, which employs the victim's wife as a public-safety dispatcher. Williams died at the scene of the crash. Medics took Barooshian to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of superficial injuries. About six hours after the deadly wreck, the Massachusetts native was booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and murder. A judge denied Barooshian’s bail Friday, saying he was a danger to the public after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor DUI in 2018.
