Then add in the changes in humidity, wind speeds, and long-term weather patterns that are all affected by climate change and wildfires become larger, stronger, and more frequent.Seventeen of California’s 20 largest fires in history all started after the year 2000.“Very careful, objective, hypothesis-driven research has shown that about half of that increase in the area burned in the western United States is attributable to the long-term warming,” said Dr. Diffenbaugh.The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions says between 1984 and 2015, the number of large wildfires doubled in the western United States. It also estimates that for every one-degree rise in Earth’s temperature, the average area burned from a wildfire could increase by 600 percent in some places.“We have two of the three largest wildfires in California’s history burning right now so it is a simple fact,” said Dr. Diffenbaugh.The increase in fire activity also increases the strain put on resources.Recently, national fire managers raised the United State’s fire preparedness level to five, which is its highest level, making all fire-trained federal employees available for assignment. 2112

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- One man was arrested in Spring Valley Tuesday afternoon following a chase that led to a four-car crash. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the fugitive task force was following a parolee at large Tuesday afternoon. When they tried to pull the parolee over, he took off, leading a deputies on a chase. At some point during the chase, the man caused a four-vehicle crash near Gillespie Drive and Jamacha Road. The department says two people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. A deputy and K-9 were also involved in the crash, but managed to escape without injury. Smoke from the raging wildfires on the West Coast has reached the eastern seaboard.Images from a NASA satellite show clouds of smoke stretching from coast to coast.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says the smoke made its way east in two different directions. One trail of smoke crossed the Great Lakes region and reached upstate New York. Another path of smoke wound its way through Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and into the Mid-Atlantic.Some of the smoke even drifted up into Canada.The wildfires have led to hazardous air quality along parts of the West Coast, but air quality in most of the eastern U.S. is not affected. 657

(KGTV) -- A mother in Simi Valley found Oxycodone and Xanax among her child’s Halloween candy following a “trunk or treat” event, according to the Simi Valley Police Department.The woman told police she took her kids to the event after seeing a post about it on Facebook.“When the family returned to their residence, the parent dumped her children’s candy out on the counter so she could spray it with disinfectant spray as a COVID-19 precaution,” police said.After inspecting the candy, the woman discovered a clear bag that contained blue pills, later identified as Oxycodone, and a white cylinder containing Xanax.The department is still investigating the incident and no suspect information was available as of Sunday morning“We would like to remind parents about the importance of inspecting any candy or edibles their children receive during Halloween events,” police wrote. 908
