CLINTON, Mo. — A Clinton police officer died and two other officers were hurt in a shooting at a home in the small Missouri town late Tuesday evening.Ofc. Christopher Ryan Morton died in the shooting, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The 30-year-old had been with the department, then returned to the force after a shooting?last year killed Clinton police officer?Gary Michael.In a news conference early Wednesday morning, Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe said officers responded to a 911 call at 9:20 p.m. local time in which a woman was screaming in the background. When police arrived at the home, Sgt. Lowe said a man fired at the responding officers from inside the residence.The officers then returned fire and went inside the home. When they went inside, the suspect shot and killed one officer and hurt two others.The officers got out of the home and crews took them to the hospital.The suspect then barricaded himself inside.Around 12:10 am, the Highway Patrol SWAT team went into the home and found the suspect dead. It is not yet known if the suspect died as a result of the gun battle with police or if it was self-inflicted.The injured officers were receiving treatment at hospitals in the Kansas City area, and according to Sgt. Lowe, their injuries are not life-threatening."The Clinton Police Department is a well respected police department," said Sgt. Lowe. "They will forge on, but they will need help along the way. We are all saddened by this tragic event. It's one of those things that we realize can happen, but when it does happen, it definitely hits home."Cassie Toliver, who lives near where the shooting took place, said police vehicles, sirens and lights quickly filled the streets and law enforcement barricaded the area from both sides. In a phone interview with Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Toliver said she could hear gun shots around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday."We can still hear shots being fired," said Toliver. "We don’t whether that’s the shooter or the cops because it’s so dark outside.”The two women who called 911 were not injured, Sgt. Lowe said. "We will be speaking with them right away."Sgt. Lowe said Morton had been with the department for a while."It's hard to put into words what you go through when you have an officer killed in the line of duty," said Sgt. Lowe.Tuesday night's shooting happened exactly seven months after Clinton police officer Gary Michael was shot and killed in the line of duty. "It's just another tragic event for this community and this police department," Sgt. Lowe said. "They've endured a lot and they are going to endure more. Everyone's thoughts and prayers would be appreciated."Sgt. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kanye West, who is currently making an independent bid for the presidency, won't appear on the ballot in Ohio due to some irregularities involving his petition to run for office.According to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, West and his running mate, Michelle Tidball, "failed to meet the requirements necessary to appear on the presidential ballot in Ohio for the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election."Specifically, information and the signature on West's nominating petition and statement of candidacy didn't match up to the documents used to circulate part-petitions, LaRose said.Click here to view West's nominating petition and declaration of candidacy forms.In order to appear on the ballot, West would have had to file a "valid and sufficient joint nominating petition and statement of candidacy that complies with the law and at least 5,000 valid signatures from Ohio voters and a slate of 18 presidential electors," according to LaRose."A signature is the most basic form of authentication and an important, time-honored, security measure to ensure that a candidate aspires to be on the ballot and that a voter is being asked to sign a legitimate petition," LaRose said. "There is no doubt that the West nominating petition and declaration of candidacy failed to meet the necessary threshold for certification."West likely won't appear on the ballots in enough states to even qualify for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. (KGTV) - For the first time, a local coaching legend is speaking out, 5 months after he was banned from the campus of Coronado High.Retired water polo coach Randy Burgess is accused in a complaint of molesting a former middle school student.A mural of Burgess remains over the pool his water polo teams has used during his 3 decades of coaching, which includes nearly 20 section championships for high school boys' and girls' teams. Three of his players have competed in the Olympics.It's a legacy now in danger."My feeling is beyond frustration. A lot of hurtful things have happened," said Burgess.In May, the former middle school student - now 18 - filed a complaint with Coronado unified.In it, the teen claims during the 7th grade while playing for a club polo team that shared the pool with Burgess' teams, Burgess hugged, kissed, and eventually raped the child, in places like bathrooms and Burgess' car.The school district removed Burgess from the classroom in April, before denying the claim in May.Burgess says his attorney learned the District Attorney's office has declined to prosecute, but 10News is still working to confirm that."My immediate response was this was a case of mistaken identity.  My coaching and teaching career never paralleled with this this individual," said Burgess, who denies ever interacting with the student.Burgess tell us he doesn't know why someone would make up such a claim. He's now suing for reinstatement to teach physical education at Coronado High. In 2015, he retired from coaching, but was still mentoring coaches."I've told my children and my athletes: It's not always what happens to you, but how you handle it. I'm trying to live through those words now," said Burgess.It's not the first time Burgess has been named in a complaint.In 1995, a city supervisor sued him and the city of Coronado, claiming Burgess berated his players, made sexually inappropriate statements in front of students and sometimes allowed male swimmers to swim naked.Burgess says that case was settled with a confidentiality clause."I can only repeat to myself that the people who know me, know me, and the others will come up with their own conclusions," said Burgess.In a statement, Coronado Unified declined to discuss personnel matters, but did say "...the District takes such claims very seriously.  When the allegations became known, the District followed policy and protocol by taking immediate action to protect the safety and security of District students and staff ..."10News reached out to the lawyers representing the former student but have yet to hear back. 2638

Counterfeit items are being sold by third-party vendors on the top ecommerce sites, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The GAO released a study Tuesday showing that even top online merchants such as Amazon and Walmart are subject to having counterfeit items posted on their sites. In some cases, the counterfeits can be harmful, the GAO reported.  The GAO purchased 47 items — a mixture of shoes, travel mugs, cosmetics and phone chargers. The items were bought from third-party sellers on Walmart, eBay, Amazon, Sears Marketplace and Newegg. Of the 47 items, 20 were counterfeit, including all 13 of the Urban Decay cosmetics purchased. "From travel mugs to cosmetics, counterfeit goods harm the U.S. economy and can pose a threat to consumers," the GAO reported.  829

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - The Coronado teenager nearly shot to death in a robbery last spring is now a real estate agent, possibly the youngest in his community. At just 19, Jacob McKanry took the test to get his license just days after getting released from the hospital.The Coronado High School Senior nearly died after he was shot selling jewelry to a couple of guys he met online.McKanry and a friend met the so-called buyers on Orange Avenue around 9 p.m. on May 4th.One of the guys grabbed the necklace while the other pulled out a gun. McKanry tried to get back the jewelry."I just hear a giant boom from behind me, and I feel my insides go like this," said McKanry.He said the shooter than aimed for McKanry's friend."My buddy was backing up, and he fell over a bike rack and the bullet, he shot right as he fell over so, the bullet went right over his head and hit that Which Wich window which definitely saved his life," said McKanry.McKanry was released from the hospital after ten days, but ultimately readmitted with a near-lethal infection.He says he still has pain in his liver and pressure in his lungs. He endured a ten-hour surgery to have the bullet, lodged between his spine and aorta, removed."It went through the back, at first it shattered part of one of my ribs, so that's how it entered into the body. So I broke, for lack of a better term, broke 2 of my ribs, and it took out a baseball chunk size of my liver. It punctured and collapsed my lung filing with blood, fractured my spine, shaved off part of my aorta, causing a pseudoaneurysm," said McKanry.McKanry said he was sure he would die."I leaned over, coughed into my hand, I spit up blood, and I was like well this is bad, I was like I'm pretty much going to die here," he said.His Christian faith brought him comfort."I was at peace, and it's going to be weird when I say this, but I was even happy, obviously, not happy that I got shot, but I pretty much knew where I was going. I knew that I was going to die and I knew that I was going to be soon reunited with the person that created me, so I was just peaceful. I was looking up at the stars and,I was happy, I was ready to go," said McKanry.Today the nineteen-year-old is excited about selling real estate. He's also studying business through Santa Barbara City College.Police arrested 3 teenagers. A judge recently sentenced the seventeen-year-old boy who set up the robbery to three years in juvenile detention. An eighteen-year-old is charged with being the getaway driver, and a second seventeen-year-old is accused of being the shooter. McKanry wants the shooter tried as an adult, but he also has compassion."I hope that he finds God, and I hope that he understands that what he did was absolutely wrong, and I hope that he is able to change his life around," said McKanry.McKanry hopes to use his ordeal to share a message."Always, always, always be thankful for what God lays in your path and never take anything for granted, cause you could go outside one day and it will all be gone," said McKanry. 3055
