SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Facebook on Thursday introduced a new feature called Open Graph, enabling users to access and share a wide range of media and lifestyle content on the social network site.According to Facebook's chief executive officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg, Open Graph lets users share what they are doing in Facebook-connected apps as they are doing it.These social apps focus on media apps including books, news, music, TV, movies and games, as well as lifestyle apps such as exercise, food, fashion and travel."The last five years of social networking have been about getting people signed up, and getting people connected with their lives. The next five years are going to be defined by the apps and depth of engagement," the young CEO said in a keynote speech at Facebook's f8 developer conference.Take music for example, Facebook integrates with European music streaming service Spotify. If one's Spotify account is connected to Facebook, a message will show up in the Ticker stating the song one is listening to and in the Timeline, a new design of one's profile page. The friends of the user can listen to the same song at the same time by hovering mouse over the song in Timeline or Ticker.Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek and movie streaming service Netflix CEO Reed Hastings also took stage as guest speakers to introduce their partnership with Facebook.Zuckerberg also introduced social news reading applications from major news organizations such as The Washington Post and Yahoo News, which allow users to access the content directly on Facebook.Earlier at the f8 conference, Timeline was unveiled as a new feature. It is a new profile design allowing users to scroll vertically through the big moments of one's life in a single page.Zuckerberg assured users that they have complete control over their Timeline, saying they can decide what content will appear and who can see it. The new feature will be available in a few weeks.Since Google launched its own social network "Google+" in June, Facebook has been in a combat mode, striving to roll out new products and features to beat the search giant. BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The after-tax CIF (cost, insurance and freight) price of China's jet fuel imports has been set at 7,768 yuan (1,206 U.S. dollars) per metric ton for August, China's economic planner said on Monday.The price adjustment marked the first time for the economic planner to adjust jet fuel prices on a monthly basis after it announced jet fuel pricing reforms in July, according to a notice posted on the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC)'s website.The NDRC announced on July 7 that it would introduce a market-oriented jet fuel pricing mechanism starting from Aug. 1.Under the new mechanism, the ex-plant price of jet fuel is required to be no higher than the after-tax CIF price of jet fuel imports from Singapore, Asia's largest oil trading and storage center.Taking transportation expenses, trade volumes and international crude oil prices into account, the jet fuel premium is negotiable between jet fuel sellers and buyers and will be reviewed once a year, while jet fuel ex-plant prices will be adjusted on the first day of every month, according to the NDRC.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Facebook on Wednesday introduced a new video calling feature powered by Skype and some improvements to the chat designs on the social networking site.According to Facebook, users can reach video calling from a new "Call" button on a friend's profile or from the chat panel after downloading a Skype application. A recipient will receive an alert that they are being called and can then accept or decline.At the press event held at Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto, California, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the feature will begin with one-on-one video chat. Skype CEO Tony Bates, whose company has been acquired by Microsoft, said Skype is considering having its paid product within the Facebook product.The social networking company also introduced "Ad Hoc Group Chat", which enables users to start a group chat instantly without creating a group with those multiple friends at first. The new group chat feature is also available for Facebook's mobile interfaces.Facebook also introduces a sidebar that lists the people a user messages most, enabling users to chat with close friends, professional contacts or co-workers without being interrupted. The sidebar can adjust with the size of users' browser window and automatically appears when the window is wide enough.In the opening remarks at the press event, Zuckerberg confirmed that Facebook had surpassed 750 million monthly active users. SINGAPORE, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Singapore scientists have found possible new ways to treat a type of aggressive breast cancer that is unresponsive to current forms of treatment, local broadcaster Channel NewsAsia reported on Wednesday.The team of scientists at the Genome Institute of Singapore ( GIS) and National University of Singapore (NUS), led by GIS senior group leader Qiang Yu, found that the enzyme EZH2 acts by inhibiting genes that stop the growth of tumors in the body.The insights could open the door to developing more effective treatment for fast spreading breast cancers, especially the estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer that is common all over the world.It was also found that through EZH2, cancer is promoted in the body by activating specific genes that impact breast cancer progression and cancer stem cell self-renewal.Yu said the new understanding on how EZH2 works as a cancer- causing gene in breast cancer has important therapeutic implication."The results suggest that small molecule drugs that block enzyme activity of EZH2 may not work for cancers caused by EZH2's activation genes," Yu said.Currently pharmaceutical companies have been developing drugs only to the block EZH2 enzyme activity so that tumor suppressers can perform their protective role in blocking cancer growth.Researchers said the next step would be to develop biomarkers to identify tumors with EZH2.This step would enable better treatment methods, with one of options being the development of therapies that shut down EZH2 completely and not just inhibit its enzymatic function.The findings have been published on the journal Molecular Cell.
