A preschool teacher was arrested on Wednesday after deputies say admitted to biting a 2-year-old student on the face.Heather Marcotte, 28, has been arrested on a charge of felony cruelty to a juvenile in Louisiana.The mother of a 2-year-old student called the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office saying that when she picked her son up from school, she noticed the bite mark on his cheek.The mother said an administrator at the school informed her that her son’s teacher reported that she left the mark on the child "when her mouth accidentally hit his face" and that the teacher had been terminated following the incident, according to the Sheriff's office.Marcotte admitted to deputies that she bit the child after she became frustrated and agitated with his behavior. A survivor of the Oct. 1, 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas is using her experience to produce a documentary highlighting the mass shooting epidemic in the United States.Jenna Cook from California was at the Route 91 Harvest Festival with her family when they heard gunshots. They initially thought they were fireworks until they realized people were being shot.As Cook ran for her life, she also starting recording on her phone. Her thinking was that if she didn't make it, she at least wanted to capture what was going on. "It was fight or flight," she said. "How do I get out of this and how do I make sure somebody remembers what happens to me?"She still hasn't been back to Las Vegas since the shooting and says she was also shaken by the other mass shootings in Texas and then Florida that have happened since.It's what inspired the public health worker to become a film producer. She's now working on a project called "When Prayers Aren't Enough." It's a documentary that explores the epidemic of mass shootings with the goal of making sure they never happen again.Cook doesn't claim to have to answers, but plans on addressing the topic by traveling the U.S. and Canada interviewing survivors of the Las Vegas shooting and other mass shootings and give those survivors a platform.Cook says while she supported the March For Our Lives, she doesn't want to put her own political views into the documentary. "I have to be the referee and make sure that everyone's represented and that everybody has their voices heard," she says.She says while many survivors support gun restrictions, including banning bump stocks, and tighter background checks, she's also met other survivors who are adamantly pro-gun.But what unites them is a desire to see mass shootings stop, hence the title "When Prayers Aren't Enough."Right now, all her interviewees have been survivors from Southern California. They've created a GoFundMe page with a goal of ,000 for the project. Right now they have ,000 and plan to do more interviews. Their funding mostly goes to travel and film crews.For more information, to watch their trailer, and support their project, click?here. 2235

A Pennsylvania woman is accused of stabbing an 8-day-old baby last week, claiming the child was created "by the devil," WPXI-TV reported.According to WPXI, Tanishia Fielder, 32, was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault after a man reported to police that he and the infant were stabbed by Fielder.Both the man and infant survived the incident, but their exact conditions were not disclosed. Fielder reportedly stabbed the infant near the baby's right eye. Fielder told police that God told her to kill the infant and dismember the body. The police said they found the knife hidden beneath a garbage bin behind the apartment building, WPXI reported.The man involved told police he and Fielder got into an argument earlier in the day and he saw her with a knife. 826

A new invasive tick is spreading through the United States, which is the first time in 50 years a new species has come to the country.The Asian long-horned tick has spread throughout the Eastern Seaboard already, causing mild concern from public health experts, according to The New York Times.The new arrival has yet to be found carrying any human diseases here. Domestic American ticks carry pathogens and transmit them into people rather often."In Asia, however, the species carries a virus that kills 15 percent of its victims," according to the Times.The new ticks are considered a threat to livestock.According to the Times, the long-horned ticks “can multiply rapidly and suck so much blood from a young animal that it dies. The ticks bloat up like fat raisins until their tiny legs are barely able to support them.”So far, the tick has been found in seven states. Experts say the tick is hard to identify."It is an aggressive biter and frequently builds intense infestations on animals causing great stress … and blood loss," according to a statement sent to The Charlotte Observer from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture“Even experts have difficulty distinguishing among tick species, so it is important to take precautions to protect pets, livestock and family members from becoming a host for ticks of any kind,” state veterinarian David Wolfgang told the Pocono Record. “Scientists don’t yet know how this species will adapt to the North American climate and animal hosts, but we know it survived New Jersey’s winter and has infested sheep and cattle in this region.”So far, the tick has been found in Arkansas, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia and West Virginia.The tick can survive throughout the year, according to the York Daily Record.“We know it can survive very harsh winters. It can handle those winters in other countries, and we know it has survived winters in New Jersey as well,” said Shannon Powers, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.Dr. Rachel Levine, Pennsylvania's secretary of health, told the Pocono Record people should be cautious when outside.“Ticks can be found in your own backyard, so it is essential to wear long sleeves and pants, use insect repellent containing DEET to help keep you safe from ticks and the diseases they carry.
