SAN DIEGO - A crash into a fire hydrant sent a geyser of water 50 feet in the air and flooded homes in Chollas Creek Sunday afternoon, witnesses said.The accident happened around 2 p.m. when witnesses said a U-Haul backed into a fire hydrant near the 5000 block of University Avenue. The hydrant broke, sending water shooting into the air.A home, several cars and some apartments nearby were flooded. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old boy was pistol whipped and shot in the leg by a man who also snatched the child's cellphone Saturday morning in the Grantville community of San Diego.The teenager was talking on his cellphone in the 6100 block of Decena Drive when he was approached by the suspect at 4 a.m., who demanded his cellphone, said Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department.The victim refused and was pistol whipped and then shot in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene with the child's cellphone, Martinez said. The boy suffered a laceration to the head and a shattered femur. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital.The suspect was about 6-foot, 4-inches tall with a heavy build. Hope area of San Diego, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.It occurred at the intersection of Market and Denby streets at 10:35 p.m. Friday as the victim was crossing Market Street legally, but not in a marked crosswalk, according to Sgt. Michael Tansey of the San Diego Police Department.The victim, identified as Ruth James of San Diego, was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, Tansey said.The driver of the Honda, a 40-year-old woman, was jailed on suspicion of felony DUI, he said.
