BEIJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese yuan strengthened to a record high against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday to reach 6.6128 per dollar.The central parity rate of the Chinese currency, also known as the renminbi (RMB), was set 88 basis points lower than Tuesday's 6.6216, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.China's central bank announced on June 19, 2010, it would further reform the yuan exchange rate formation mechanism to improve its flexibility.On China's foreign exchange spot market, the yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.The central parity rate of the RMB against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of enquired prices from all market makers before the opening of the market each business day.

BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged the country to offer better services for the disabled.Li made the remarks Friday while visiting the Care and Rehabilitation Expo, a three-day international exhibition on equipment to assist disabled and aged people.Friday marked the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. China's disabled population exceeds 83 million. Li called for more efforts to care for the disabled in a bid to improve their quality of life.Further, the vice premier said the country would improve laws and regulations regarding the disabled and increase support of policies and fund input to serve the disabled population in better ways.Better services for disabled people would include improving the quality of public services, making more areas handicapped accessible, and assisting the needy and safeguarding their rights and interests in a bid to solving difficulties in their living, studying, and medical requirements, Li said.The expo, organized by the China Disabled Persons' Federation and the General Office of the National Aging Committee, brought together more than 200 manufacturers from 17 countries and regions, according to statistics released by the organizing committee.

WUHAN, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday that Premier Wen Jiabao's imminent visit to Russia and the 15th regular meeting between the Chinese and Russian prime ministers would further promote the bilateral relationship.Yang made the remarks while meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at the 10th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia and India in central China's Wuhan city.However, Yang did not give a specific date for the prime ministers' meeting in Russia.During his meeting with Lavrov, Yang praised progress of the development of China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination this year. CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The outcome of the UN climate change conference in Cancun sent "positive" signals to the international community, the Chinese delegation said Saturday.Conference delegates finally reached a deal to fight global warming early Saturday after an all-night session, overruling an objection from Bolivia."As for the outcome of this conference, first of all, it adheres to the (UN) Convention (on climate change), the Kyoto Protocol and the Bali Roadmap, as well as the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, which ensures that next year's negotiation will continue along the two tracks decided by the Bali Roadmap," the Chinese delegation said in a statement."Second, progress has been made at different levels in the areas where developing countries have concerns, such as adaptation, technology transfer, finance and capacity building, and the negotiation process will move on, which sends positive signals to the international community," the delegation said.It said the conference failed to conclude the negotiation of the Bali Roadmap and this indicated next year's negotiation task would be "extremely difficult."The delegation expected all parties to display strong political will and conclude the negotiation on the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol at the next conference, to be held in Durban, South Africa. In particular, that conference should establish effective mechanisms for finance, technology transfer and adaptation to support developing countries' efforts in addressing climate change, successfully conclude the negotiation in accordance with the mandate of the Bali Roadmap and make a big step forward in the international cooperation in combating climate change.China would continue to make positive efforts towards this end, the delegation said.The delegation reaffirmed that the Chinese government would hold a highly responsible attitude toward the Chinese people and people in the world, and remain committed to promoting green, low-carbon and sustainable development as its contribution to combating climate change.The Chinese delegation also hailed the efforts of the Mexican government and its people during the negotiations and their hospitality.
