"China firmly opposes the plan and has lodged solemn representations and protests to the US side," Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a press briefing.
"But now we see policies that attempt to close the door and resort to unilateralism," he said. "And to succeed in today's world, the best choice is to take a win-win approach. But now we see policies that are so strongly influenced by the zero-sum mentality as well as policies that regard other people's success as their losses."
"China is building an open economy. We welcome European countries to seize the opportunities to scale up investment in China and explore this huge market of 1.4 billion people," he said.
"By staying within the WTO framework, that's consistent with the way international trade is regulated, and it does give a high ground that they are basically following the rules," he said of the Chinese mainland and several others that have filed the WTO cases over the US solar panel tariffs. But he said the US so far has been following the rules, too.
"China always believes that 5G technology is a frontier technology that leads the fourth Industrial Revolution and offers a valuable platform, and the development and utilization of 5G in a globalization era happens naturally as all countries undertake extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared outcomes," he added.
