BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin called for closer financial ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan while meeting with Fredrick Chien, the head of a Taiwan finance delegation here on Thursday.Jia, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People' s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that financial cooperation was crucial for the cross-Straits economic bond. FUZHOU, Nov. 11 (Xinhua)-- Alibaba.com Ltd., operator of China' s largest online-commerce site for businesses, said its paying members in the third quarter exceeded 1 million for the first time, as shown in its unaudited financial figures for the quarter, released on Thursday.Alibaba boasts 56.7 million registered users, 8.2 million storefronts and over 1 million paying members, up by 25 percent, 35 percent and 30 percent respectively, year on year, according to the report."We specifically stepped up our efforts in enforcing a trusted and safe environment in our marketplace by eliminating paying members who committed fraud, as well as those who have a high probability to commit fraud. As of 8.p.m., most of the stranded passengers had been relocated to the nearby Xinhuang County.According to Guizhou's transportation department, the highway is unlikely to open until Monday and the transportation conditions in the next few days will not be optimistic as more cold fronts are forecast to hit the province from Wednesday to Saturday.Snow and freezing rain have also hit Hunan Province. But meteorological authorities said the possibility of the province suffering from harsh conditions similar to those in the winter of 2008 is small.
