On Monday, social media website Reddit banned r/The_Donald, a subreddit devoted to discussing President Donald Trump, as a part of a purge of more than 2,000 groups on the site that were in violation of the social media site's rules, according to The New York Times and The Verge.The move marks a stark change in Reddit policy. Previously, Reddit has allowed groups and individuals more leeway when censoring content on the site.Launched in 2015 along with Trump's presidential campaign, r/The_Donald grew to nearly 800,000 members before it was removed from Reddit. While the group did not have any affiliation with Trump or the Trump campaign, the then-Republican nominee participated in an "Ask Me Anything" discussion in the group during the 2016 presidential campaign.The group has become known for a breeding ground for conspiracy theories. According to reports, the group helped propel the "Pizzagate" theory that led to the arrest of an armed man at a D.C.-area pizza restaurant shortly after the 2016 election. It also routinely hosted Islamophobic discussions and promoted other content many considered to be racist.According to a disclaimer, Reddit says r/The_Donald was banned violating Rules 1 (harassment, threats of violence), 2 (spamming, vote manipulation) and 8 (don't break the site or do anything that interferes with the normal use of Reddit).Reddit had previously taken steps to curtail r/The_Donald. In June 2019, the network "quarantined" the site, meaning that the subreddit would not show up in search results and could not appear on the site's front page. In addition, anyone attempting to visit the forum would be met with a warning screen.The move comes about three weeks after Reddit published a blog post outlining changes to the social network's policies. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Since 1975, the Oceanside Senior Citizens Association has been serving hot meals to North County seniors in need. Due to financial hardships, that will end after Dec. 28."Our program has skyrocketed, we have a lot of seniors that are below poverty level, they have no family, they have no finances," Executive Director Sylvia Spears said. "Our meal is sometimes the only meal they get for the day and we ask for a donation only, we never turn anybody down if they can’t make a donation."Spears says the program is funded by senior donations, the county, and grants. However, she says senior donations have dropped 75 percent and they now have more clients than ever. Spears says the nonprofit asked the City of Oceanside for help, requesting an additional ,000 a month. The city could only offer half of that."I had to realize that we just couldn’t go on anymore and that’s hard because I know what these meals mean to these seniors," said Spears. OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A 72-year-old man found dead in a vehicle and two other people discovered on a roadway were among the latest victims of the deadliest wildfire in California this year. The Butte County sheriff's office said DNA testing was used to positively identify 10 of 15 people killed last week in the North Complex fire burning northeast of San Francisco. The victims included three people whose bodies were found in or near a burned vehicle. Gov. Gavin Newsom said more than 17,000 firefighters are battling some 25 major fires that were sparked in the past month. (AP) — Facebook says it has prepared new safeguards for the 2020 U.S. elections.The social media giant says the changes will help it better prepare to deal with candidates who prematurely declare victory or contest official results, as well as the possibility of voter intimidation by alleged — and potentially armed — “poll watchers.”It's also removing calls for people to “watch” polling places if the apparent goal to intimidate voters and election officials.The company will also halt all political advertisements once polls close on Nov. 3.
