BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's top economic planner, refuted on Monday recent reports online saying China is mulling adjustments of electricity prices, claiming such reports "untrue" .The NDRC said in a statement on its website that recently there were reports online saying the NDRC was studying plans to adjust electricity prices, citing Li Jing, deputy head of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection at NDRC. Reports said she has not given the timetable for the plan.The statement further said she never made such remarks to media and the reports were groundless.The NDRC began a rise in the price of electricity for non-residential use by 2.8 fen (0.4 cents) per kwh on average nationwide on November 20 last year, with residential electricity prices unchanged.

GUANLING, Guizhou, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Tuesday urged local government to use all resources to rescue victims of a landslide in southwest China's Guizhou Province.Rescuers should save the lives of the victims and treat the wounded using all possible means, said Hui during an inspection tour of the disaster-hit area from late Monday to Tuesday.He also called for the utmost efforts to properly resettle people affected by the landslide and sounded caution regarding additional landslides.He said all areas prone to landslides should be examined closely and nearby residents must be evacuated immediately upon any sign of an impending landslide.Further, information about the disaster relief efforts should be made public in a timely, objective, open and transparent manner, said Hui.The landslide occurred at 2:30 p.m. on Monday in Dazhai Village, Gangwu Township of Guanling County, burying 107 people from 38 families. Rescuers said their chances of survival were slim.

TAIPEI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's eastern Zhejiang Province and Taiwan have agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture, tourism, finance and other sectors, according to sources with a Zhejiang delegation which concluded its eight-day visit to the island on Wednesday.The sources said that the delegation, led by Zhejiang governor Lu Zushan, purchased 31 million yuan (4.5 million U.S. dollars) worth fruits and tea products from local farmers in Kaohsiung and Nantou.Zhejiang provincial government also pledged to help Taiwan farmers to sell their agricultural products in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu and other cities in the province and offer them preferential treatment in participating farm produce exhibitions.Zhejiang Province plans to increase its imports from Taiwan to about 10 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year, from last year's 7.7 billion U.S. dollars.After the first six Zhejiang companies which have been permitted to conduct investment in Taiwan, Zhejiang government will promote more companies to invest in the island.Commercial banks in Zhejiang and Taiwan have also achieved cooperation agreement on financial service, insurance, futures trading and other services for small and medium-sized companies on both sides.Zhejiang is where many Taiwan people come from.The province is also a magnet for Taiwanese investment. BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The State Administration of Civil Service Thursday announced a plan to select personnel for central government organizations from the grass-roots level.In all, 30 civil servants will be selected and assigned to 11 ministry-level organizations such as the ministries of foreign affairs, education, agriculture and culture.Civil servants working in government organizations in the province, city, county and village levels can apply for these posts.However, those at the provincial level will have to have two-years of grassroots work experience while village-level civil servants must have at least three-years of work experience.The written test and interview for the selection will be held in September.According to a statement released by the administration, the plan aims to create a system of cultivating civil servants from the frontline and grass-root levels for optimizing the structure of civil servants in central government departments.
