SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People with gardens and groves in their back yard are helping others through the coronavirus pandemic, by donating their extra fruits and veggies."Especially in these times where we're just looking for good stories and good things to do, that was in my heart to encourage other people," says Terri Healy. She donated six full boxes worth of fruit from her backyard trees.Healy was inspired by a message from her Pastor at the Rock Church. So she took the fruit to a nearby nursery, and posted a sign that said "Free Organic Fruit." It was gone within a couple of days."The employees there said that the customers were just so excited to receive it," says Healy. "We're thrilled that it was used in the community."Community is a big deal to KK Kvernland. She helps run the Second Chance Youth Garden. It gives at-risk teens hands-on training in a garden, as well as mentoring. Kvernland had to cancel the classes during the pandemic and was looking for something to do with all the vegetables they grew."We usually run a delivery box service, sell at fruit stands, to restaurants, and the kids all take home food each week," she explains. "Now, we're putting our heads together, and we really want to get food to the most vulnerable people in our community, including our participants and their families." They're also asking for help, as they're missing out on the revenue they get from sales. "We're asking people to come and donate to our website so that we're able to cover the costs to provide people food to the people that needed the most," says Kvernland. For both Healy and Kvernland, and countless other people who have been giving away the fruits and veggies they grow at home, this is all about coming together during a crisis."It's just a good reminder that it's important to have community resilience," says Kvernland. "And it's important to make sure that services are accessible for all types of people.""We're trying to encourage others," says Healy. "What can you do with your farm or your ranch? Is there anything on your farms that you can use to help spread the food supply to people in your community? It's a good feeling."For more information about the Second Chance Youth Garden, or to make a donation, click here. 2263

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday evening, a city official put inspection tags the doors of the Barrio Logan warehouse where a platform collapsed this weekend, injuring 21 minors and a few adults. It happened Saturday night at Vault PK parkour gym on Main Street. The facility is closed until further notice.RELATED: Structure collapses at Barrio Logan parkour centerOn Monday, inspectors with the city of San Diego toured the warehouse as part of their investigation, which is still in its preliminary stages. A city spokesperson told us there are "definite code violations" and permit issues, but no further details were released. Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident but is not investigating since no workers were injured. Team 10 verified that Vault PK's business license became active in July. On the gym's Facebook page, it appears the owner posted in June that her father and brother were working on much of the construction of the gym. RELATED:?Investigation underway in platform collapse at San Diego parkour gymMonday afternoon, Team 10 spoke to a local father whose wife, son and daughter were at the gym at the time of the collapse. He didn't want his name used but said his son sustained injuries to his foot and his wife has a broken foot. He says his 16-year-old daughter is still in the hospital with a broken pelvis and broken arm. There's no word on when she'll be released. The father says he was at the parkour gym a few days before the incident and told us the facility appeared like it didn't meet proper safety standards.Vault PK also operates a facility in Torrance and told Team 10 investigator Jennifer Kastner the gym is closed for inspections. 1719

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More Southern Californians are electing to live with their parents today, San Diego was considered among the top spots where adults live with their parents, ranking 15 on the 50-city survey, according to a study by MagnifyMoney. In the San Diego metropolitan area, 19.7% of adults aged 25 to 40 live with their parents, the study claimed."While these factors might play some role, the reality for most adults ages 25 to 40 living with their parents is that they lack the money to move out and establish their own households. Some might be unemployed and looking for work, while some have left the labor force altogether," the study says. "Other young adults have their own children and live with parents out of a need for child care and support."RELATED: MISD: How to save for a down payment on a San Diego homeThat group is broken down into:Those who have children: 25.3%Are unemployed (people who want to work but can't find employment): 6.9%Don't participate in the labor force (people who don't work outside of home and not seeking work): 17.2%The rankings used census data from 2017 to examine those who identified living at home with parents. Those who identified themselves as students were excluded.RELATED: MISD: Granny flat permits soar in San DiegoOther Southern California cities also hit the top of the list, including Riverside (1, 28.1% of adults living with parents), Los Angeles (3, 26.6% of adults living with parents), Sacramento (18, 18.7% of adults living with parents), San Francisco (19, 18.5% of adults living with parents), and San Jose (24, 17.6% of adults living with parents.)Some more tidbits about the numbers, more men in the surveyed age range were likely to live with their parents in every metro. Also, the average unemployment rate across all metros was 8.6%, more than twice the national rate of 4% as of January 2019.Across all metros, nearly one in five adults who live at home don't participate in the labor market at all. 1988
