Calico Critters and a VTech Drill & Learn Toolbox are among several toys a Florida consumer advocacy group has deemed dangerous in its annual toy safety report ahead of the busy holiday shopping season. On Monday, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group Education Fund (PIRG) released its "Trouble in Toyland," a guide to help keep children safe from dangerous toys. The report warns about several toys being sold across the U.S. are choking hazards, recalled toys being resold on eBay, magnets being swallowed, noisy toys, and in-app purchases. When it comes to toys with small parts, the report recommends parents inspecting the toys thoroughly "regardless of what the label does or doesn't say."For noisy toys, the report says they can hurt your child's hearing, so an adult should lower the volume or place tape over the speakers to "muffle the sound."Several toys mentioned in the report include:Neutronball building sets and magnets made by Zen Magnets LLC are considered choking hazards, according to PRIG."Never allow young children to play with high-powered magnets, and talk with older children about the dangers of being careless and leaving them within reach of their siblings," the report stated.Toys that have been recalled - 6" Promotional Aflac Doctor Duck, the Step2 Little Helper's Children's Grocery Shopping Cart, and the Fisher-Price Barbie Dream Camper — were recently found for sale on eBay."When shopping for toys, especially at garage sales and second-hand stores or sites, check saferproducts.gov to confirm the toy hasn't already been recalled," the report said. The report is there to inform the public as well as suggest guidelines for lawmakers. 1683

CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado woman suspected of trying to sell three human fetuses from the 1920s and a fetal skeleton online has been indicted in California on charges of violating a U.S. law prohibiting the transfer of human fetal tissue.Emily Suzanne Cain, 38, pleaded not guilty to charges Tuesday, KUSA-TV reported .The case has been delayed until Nov. 20 in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, according to court records. The fetuses are believed to be from stillborn infants from the 1920s, court records said.Cain attempted in October 2018 to mail a package from Canon City in central Colorado to an address in the United Kingdom, according to a criminal complaint. The package, labeled "school teaching aids and T-shirts," caught the attention of U.S. Postal Service workers who noticed there was no signature on a customs form certifying the package did not contain dangerous contents, authorities said in the complaint. An X-ray of the package revealed a human-like shape, according to U.S. customs agents at the San Francisco International Airport cited in the complaint.Cain posted on Facebook that she acquired the fetuses from a university lab collection and was selling them for ,000, the complaint said. The specimens were traced to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, the complaint said.University policy calls for specimens that are no longer needed to be cremated and not sold, university officials told investigators. The university is cooperating with authorities, a spokesperson said.Cain was first arrested in Fort Collins and released on a ,000 bond with a GPS monitor.A phone number for Cain could not immediately be located. 1674

CHICAGO, Ill. – Chicago’s police commissioner says more than 100 people were arrested following a night of looting and unrest that left 13 officers injured and caused damage in the city’s upscale Magnificent Mile shopping district and other parts of the city.Police Superintendent David Brown says it “was not an organized protest” but instead “an incident of pure criminality” that began following the shooting of a person by police the previous day in the city's Englewood neighborhood. It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the unrest, which began shortly after midnight, but anti-police graffiti was seen in the area.At one point early Monday, shots were fired at police and officers returned fire. Many of the businesses that were ransacked had recently opened after Chicago protests of George Floyd’s May 25 death in Minneapolis devolved into chaos.Brown says a heavy police presence is expected in the downtown area until further notice.Mayor Lori Lightfoot described it as “straight up, felony criminal conduct” and “an assault on our city." 1057
