The Federal Aviation Administration issued an emergency directive for inspections of certain Boeing 737 planes due to recent reports of engine shutdowns.The FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive on Thursday for certain Boeing 737s that have been in storage for more than a week.According to the directive, a certain engine valve may be responsible for four recent reports of engine shutdowns. Agency officials suspect that the valve may become corroded during storage, causing it to remain stuck in the open position.The directive requires that any Boeing 737-300, -400, -500, -600, -700, -700C,-800, -900, and -900ER that have been in storage for a week or longer undergo an inspection before being put back into use. The directive also requires inspections for any of those Boeing models that have completed "less than 10 flight cycles" at the time of the directive after coming out of storage.The inspection order was released the same day that CNBC reported that Boeing told lenders to expect fewer deliveries of its 737 Max planes that initially expected. The CDC announced Friday a pilot project intended on decreasing chronic diseases in high-risk communities. The government is putting million toward the project to address five areas of social detriments.Some groups—including racial and ethnic minorities, those living in poverty, and people in certain parts of the country—are disproportionately impacted by the burden of chronic conditions, the CDC said.“Chronic diseases touch every American, in one way or another,” said Karen Hacker, M.D., M.P.H., director of CDC’s NCCDPHP. “This important pilot project will help us better understand strategies to advance health equity and reduce the immense burden of chronic disease.”The program will address five areas on concern, said the CDC:Built environment: human-made surroundings that influence overall community health and individual behaviors that drive healthCommunity-clinical linkages: connections made among health care systems and services, public health agencies, and community-based organizations to improve population healthFood insecurity: an economic and social condition characterized by limited or uncertain access to adequate and nutritious foodSocial connectedness: the degree to which individuals or groups of individuals have and perceive a desired number, quality, and diversity of relationships that create a sense of belonging and being cared for, valued, and supportedTobacco-free policy: population-based preventive measures to reduce tobacco use and tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.The CDC said it will work with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and the National Association of County and City Health Officials to identify community to join the pilot program. 1727

The company that owns GEDmatch, the DNA analysis site that police in California used to catch the so-called Golden State Killer, said hackers attacked their database and exposed users' DNA profile data to law enforcement searches.In a statement posted on Facebook, Verogen said they took down their website after being hit by two security breaches on July 19 and July 20.The company stated that GEDmatch profiles were exposed to law enforcement agencies in an “orchestrated through a sophisticated attack on one of our servers via an existing user account.""As a result of this breach, all user permissions were reset, making all profiles visible to all users," the company said in the statement. "This was the case for approximately 3 hours. The Coca-Cola Co. says it’s laying off 2,200 workers, or 17% of its global workforce, as part of a larger restructuring aimed at paring down its brands.The company said around 1,200 of the layoffs will occur in the U.S., with around 500 of those eliminated in Atlanta, where the company is based.These layoffs come after the beverage company offered buyouts to about 4,000 employees in August.
