Yale University will no longer formally call first-year students "freshmen" as the university is officially changing its terminology to be gender-neutral. So instead of being considered an "upperclassman," a student with multiple years of collegiate experience will be officially considered an "upper-level" student. According to Yale's student newspaper, administrators are not expecting students, faculty and staff to change how they refer to freshmen or upperclassmen. The change is one that is merely to be used in official titles and correspondence. “It’s really for public, formal correspondence and formal publications … we’re not trying to tell people what language to use in their everyday casual conversations,” Yale Colleg Dean Marvin Chun told the Yale News. “We’re not trying to be language police.”The new gender-neutral terminology was unveiled in the 2017-18 edition of the student handbook. Yale's student newspaper reported that administrators have been considering the change to gender-neutral terms for several years. YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK – A hiker died after falling from Half Dome at Yosemite National Park Monday, according to KABC.The hiker fell from the Half Done cables while hiking with another person during a thunderstorm around 4:30 p.m. Monday.The National Park Service says the death is the first fatality at that particular spot since 2010. It’s also the first time a visitor died this year.The identity of the hiker hasn’t been released and no further details are being made available at this time. 514

You can help NASA discover new planets.On Wednesday, the agency announced its new website called Planet Patrol, where astronomers can hunt down new worlds, with the public's help.NASA said they’d sort through images collected by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite or TESS for short.“Automated methods of processing TESS data sometimes fail to catch imposters that look like exoplanets,” said project leader Veselin Kostov in a press release. “The human eye is extremely good at spotting such imposters, and we need citizen scientists to help us distinguish between the look-alikes and genuine planets.”TESS captured hundreds of thousands of snapshots over a year, but scientists need help because there are too many pictures to examine.Kostov said that computers are excellent at analyzing data, but sometimes fail to determine potential planets from fakes.Participants will answer questions as they sift through the images to help Kostov and his team of researchers narrow down the list of potential planets. 1027
