LAKE CLARKE SHORES, Fla. — A Florida family is securing their home after two of their cats were shot in the back with a pellet gun, forcing them to be euthanized. Police are looking for whoever is responsible. First, it was Peanut, a black kitten, and then Fritz, a 4-year-old white and orange cat back in March and April, respectively.They came home to their owner, Debbie Hiatt, with a wound in their back and their hind legs dragging back in the spring. “The biggest thing for me was just wanting to find someplace else to live. Because I don’t trust anyone,” Hiatt said in an interview. In X-rays, you can see a single pellet lodged in each one of their spines A veterinarian would have no choice but to put them down. Peanut was the hardest. “His front was so full of life but nothing in the back. Even Fritz was hard, but the baby? It was a lot harder with the baby,” Hiatt said. Since then, taking no chances, she and her husband John had cameras installed around their home and secured their back porch for their remaining cats and dogs. She says six other cats have inexplicably gone missing over the last year. “It’s not fair to the animals. They don’t know. And what they could have done is come to me and said 'hey, keep your animals out of my yard.' And then at that point in time, we would have done this probably a lot sooner. And then I would have still have Peanut. And Fritz,” she said. Lake Clark Shores police say they have identified a person of interest but haven’t made an arrest yet.“Catch the person. LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas woman and her mom say a man in a parking lot starting insulting them because they were speaking Spanish.It happened in the parking lot of the Smith's grocery store in Southern Highlands. The mother and daughter say they were walking through the lot when a man overheard them speaking Spanish.That's when the daughter decided to get out her phone and start recording the encounter. At one point the woman calls him a racist and the man replies, "Yes, I am. Very much so." Then, after she talks to her mom again in Spanish, the man mimics the woman before saying "Maybe I should go back to where I came from, Ohio, because they don't let you people there."The woman behind the camera shared her video on Facebook. She didn't want to go on camera because she was still shaken up, but wanted to share her video to show what happened to her wasn't acceptable.While the encounter was alarming, it's certainly not isolated. Jose Macias with Make the Road Nevada says many Hispanic-Americans and Spanish speakers, as well as other minority groups, have repeatedly faced similar situations."This has definitely been rising since Trump became president," Macias says. "Hate towards immigrants, to people that speak Spanish has been rising up."As for the woman behind the cameras, shoppers KTNV spoke with in the same parking lot hope she'll remember some different messages instead when she comes back to shop."We have enough hatred. LARGO, Florida — In the span of about 10 minutes, jurors in the sentencing trial of convicted cop killer Marco Parilla handed down two sentences. Only one was correct. And, it isn't what family members of fallen Tarpon Springs, Florida Police Officer Charles Kondek were hoping for.The jury had supposedly unanimously decided death was the appropriate penalty, but then the judge noticed some numbers scribbled out on the forms and asked the jury to go back and confirm all 12 jurors agreed on death.  Upon their return to the courtroom, the jury came back with a verdict of life in prison, as only 10 jurors voted for the death penalty and two for life in prison.The judge, explaining to Kondek's family and friends that under a new Florida law, the decision to sentence someone to death must be unanimous. The jurors made a paperwork error filling out their verdict that led to the confusion.Kondek's widow Theresa couldn't believe an error was made."Relief, we felt like justice was served for Charlie. We waited three years for this and then to have it taken away that was a little tough," Kondek said. "It’s closure for us. Obviously, we wanted the death penalty."Kondek said this chapter of her life is over and all she wants to do is move forward and live a life that will honor her fallen husband. "No one wins. Either way, my husband will never come home," Kondek said.  Parilla was convicted of murdering Officer Charles Kondek of the Tarpon Springs Police Department back in 2014.On Thursday, Parilla told the family he was ashamed of what he did and tried to apologize to the fallen officer's family.After learning Parilla would not face the death penalty, family members told him in their victim impact statements that they hoped he died in prison sooner rather than later."You are an animal and I hope you die the worst death possible, a shiv across the neck or something," Charles Kondek, the fallen officer's father told Parilla. 2038

LA JOLLA, Calif., (KGTV)— San Diego beaches were bare this Memorial Day Weekend, and as overcast skies and sprinkles kept people from visiting the usual destination spots. "Ambient temperature is colder when you get in, and that's just the way your body works. It actually feels warmer," Forbes said. Las Vegas-based KTNV spoke with people who spotted O.J. Simpson at The Cosmopolitan Wednesday. Simpson was thrown out of the hotel-casino after accusations of being drunk. According to two witnesses, Simpson wasn't seen drinking and was not being unruly."He was very nice, very cordial," said Michelle Messer.Simpson's lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, told KTNV that the story about Simpson being drunk at The Cosmopolitan is completely untrue.LaVergne says that Simpson is a social drinker, meaning he usually orders one drink and sips on it while socializing, and that he was at the Cosmopolitan to eat chicken wings.LaVergne also told KTNV that the hotel-casino had apparently decided before Simpson's visit to trespass him from the property. LaVergne says that after Simpson was notified, he left the hotel-casino quietly.In addition, Simpson is challenging anyone with proof that he was drunk and belligerent to come forward.
