SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Less than a week before the election, there are reports of political yard signs being stolen and vandalized, and in some cases, appearing in yards.Sunday night, just before midnight in a cul-de-sac in El Cajon, surveillance video shows a car driving slowly before it stops to let someone out."A shadowy figure, looks young, maybe 10 years old, gets out of the vehicle, runs in, and grabs a political sign," said Brandon Spaulding.Spaulding says the sign being taken belonged to his neighbor and it read "Trump/Pence, Make America Great Again." That same night, Spaulding's sign, which had been vandalized days before, also disappeared.The apparent thieves in the Sunday's thefts: a child and an adult."Very disappointed and frustrated ... being a terrible role model. As parents, you’re supposed to teach children the different between right and wrong. I was always taught to love my country, and part of that is freedom of speech. Respect people's rights to say what they want to say," said Spaulding.Spaulding isn't alone. Local Republican Party officials say they've received more than a 100 reports of stolen Trump signs, a greater number when compared to previous presidential elections.In Coronado, police responded Wednesday to seven homes, where yard signs reading "Racism Lives Here" appeared in front of the homes of Trump supporters who were displaying signs or flags.It isn't just Trump backers being targeted. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- La Mesa Police Department announced it has dropped their charges against Amaurie Johnson, a black man whose controversial arrest was captured in a viral video last week.La Mesa Chief of Police Walt Vasquez said that "after a full review of all of the evidence in the criminal investigation" against Johnson, the police department will not seek prosecution "on any of the alleged misdemeanor charges."The announcement comes two days since the department released body camera footage showing the events that led up to an arrest video that surfaced last week.A week prior, a video surfaced showing an argument between Johnson, a black man, and a white police officer at the Grossmont Trolley Station. The officer is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position onto a bench. Eventually, Johnson is handcuffed and told he is being charged with assaulting an officer.It's unknown what actually occurred in the first few moments of the encounter because the witness video began recording sometime after the confrontation began, and the first the 30 seconds of the video provide by police starts without any sound. On the day the body camera video was released, Vasquez said the beginning of the video is muted because of the way the body camera is activated."Mr. Johnson is relieved that the criminal aspect of this case seems to be over with (but) until we have something formal from the prosecuting agency, he is not at rest in believing that it is completely over with," Johnson's attorney, Troy Owens, said. "He has still expressed that he is shaken up and upset by what took place. He has expressed that this is not the first time an incident like that has happened, it's just the first time it happened to be captured on camera, so Mr. Johnson is adamant he wants to see change.""We do believe that the officer should be investigated for potential criminal liability, but there is also a civil aspect to this. Mr. Johnson and I are discussing our options as far as moving forward with a complaint with the city of la mesa and potentially taking this to state or federal court," Owens added.The incident sparked a large protest last Saturday in La Mesa. Thousands of demonstrators took over city's streets to protest Johnson's arrest and the department's investigation of the incident. The peaceful demonstration and marches ended when a large group gathered outside of the La Mesa Police Department and began attacking a bear cat vehicle that was brought in to help disperse the crowd. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Locals and visitors in San Diego's mountains Friday awoke to a winter wonderland of snowfall.A Thanksgiving storm brought a fresh coating of snowfall to the county's higher elevations, including areas of Julian, Descanso, Palomar Mountain, Pine Valley, and Mt. Laguna. A winter storm warning will continue through 10 p.m. Friday.San Diego mountains can expect to see about 10 to 18 inches of snow above 5,500', 10News meteorologist Megan Parry reports. Areas between 3,000 and 4,000 feet will see trace amounts to 2 inches of snow, and areas 4,000 and 4,500' can expect about 3 to 8 inches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many of the 134 cats rescued from a Lakeside apartment are up for adoption in County animal shelters. Sheriff’s deputies who were conducting a welfare check at the apartment Thursday discovered the cats and called animal services.Most of the animals appear to be healthy and well-fed, though stand-offish at the moment.  RELATED: 'Dozens' of cats found inside Lakeside apartment during elderly neglect callThe adoptable animals are at the shelters in Bonita and Carlsbad.  All have been checked out by the veterinary staff and given flea and worm medicines.  Each will be spayed or neutered and chipped before adoption.  The adoption fee is per cat or kitten. 745
