WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — U.S. President Donald Trump is proposing changes that could impact those with student loans."Student loans are a burden," said Melenie Ramos, a freshman at Palm Beach State College in Florida.Ramos comes from a family that knows the effects of student loan debt firsthand."I would say avoid it because I actually have a brother and a sister-in-law that took out student loans when they went to school and they’re still trying to pay it off," Ramos said. "They’re living with us now to save up and to pay it off."It’s a cautionary tale for students preparing to take on debt."I may have to potentially take out ,000 per year," said Gina Vallarella, a junior at Florida Atlantic University. In an effort to hold colleges and universities more accountable, Trump has a list of reforms to student loan programs inside his proposed .7 trillion fiscal 2020 budget. WASHINGTON – The White House on Friday blasted the House's impeachment inquiry as "completely baseless" and a "reckless abuse of power" ahead of a deadline set by House Democrats for the White House to say whether it would participate in the impeachment proceedings.White House counsel Pat Cipollone sent a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler attacking the Democrats' impeachment inquiry, though the message did not explicitly say that President Donald Trump's counsel would not take part."As you know, your impeachment inquiry is completely baseless and has violated basic principles of due process and fundamental fairness," Cipollone wrote in a two-paragraph letter. "Adopting articles of impeachment would be a reckless abuse of power by House Democrats, and would constitute the most unjust, highly partisan, and unconstitutional attempt at impeachment in our Nation's history."While the letter doesn't specifically state the White House won't participate, that's what it means, according to a senior administration official."The letter communicates that we will not participate in this process," the official said. The White House counsel concluded the brief letter by quoting Trump's tweet from earlier this week: "Whatever course you choose, as the President has recently stated: 'if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business.'"This story is breaking and will be updated. 1498
WASHINGTON — Congress is shutting the Capitol and all House and Senate office buildings to the public until April in reaction to the spread of the coronavirus. The House and Senate sergeants at arms said in a statement that the closure will begin at 5 p.m. EDT Thursday. Lawmakers, aides, journalists and official visitors will be allowed into the buildings. The statement says officials were acting “out of concern for the health and safety of congressional employees as well as the public.” The officials say they're acting on the advice of District of Columbia health officials and of Congress' own doctors. 622
