A UPS driver in Clackamas County, Oregon called his wife who then called 911 after he heard cries of "help" coming from inside a residence while the driver was on his route. It turns out that the UPS driver was tricked by a parrot. The incident took place Monday evening, according to the Oregonian. The Oregonian reported that the UPS driver became distressed over what sounded like a human's cry for help. He then called his wife, who then called 911, alerting authorities to the screams. Deputy Hayden Sanders responded to the scene, expecting it to be tense. But thankfully, within minutes, Sanders had a reason to laugh. Sanders confirmed that Diego the parrot was behind the screams. After concluding that everyone, including Diego, was safe, Sanders posed for a photo with the mischievous parrot. A new campaign featuring the world's only classical music organization created for people with mental illness has teamed up with advocates to honor mental illness awareness week. They're using social media to bring people together to share how we're all getting through 2020.In a socially-distanced way, musicians gather outside with masks on to rehearse and get ready for a big, monumental moment. “My husband is the driving force here, he’s a brilliant conductor. His name is Ronald Braunstein and he conducted all over the world, he also has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder,” said Caroline Whiddon. She's the co-founder and executive director of the Me2 Orchestra.She said, “we have musicians living with bipolar disorder schizophrenia, substance abuse disorders, OCD, PTSD, depression and anxiety, that’s my diagnosis, it runs the gamut and we’re all constantly learning from each other."When there's not a pandemic, the orchestra, which Whiddon describes as a "traveling band", travels everywhere. They're working to erase the stigma of mental illness through their collective and talented musical voices. "We play both in traditional concert venues like recital halls or city hall but what’s exciting for us, we go into non-traditional venues, we play in gymnasiums at correctional facilities, at addiction treatment centers, hospitals, those types of people.” They work, Whiddon says, to normalize the challenges and show their successes. She also says if you were to watch the Me2 Orchestra members perform, you would never know anyone had any sort of mental illness."I’m always telling people, 'if you were to pop in, it would just look like an orchestra rehearsing.'”Now, they're working on a brand new piece. They're using their music to encourage others to share their "monumental moments" on social media. In doing so, pharmaceutical company Neurocrine Biosciences will donate to mental health organizations. “We’re really going to inject some positivity out there, let’s talk about what’s keeping us grounded and what’s keeping us real and mentally healthy right now,” said Whiddon.Dr. Stacy Cohen, a mental health expert, says music is instrumental in its healing properties. “Music is really like medicine, it increases the flow of our positive neurotransmitters which are our brain's hormones, things like dopamine and serotonin which we’ve all heard of that tend to boost our mood or make us feel more calm or more joy, those things increase in the settings of just listening to music. It can be that simple."Cohen says, in a time when people are more stressed and anxious then ever, mental health is more challenged than ever. Which means treatment is more necessary than ever. And watching those with mental illness perform can be therapeutic. For all of us. Cohen said, “It really is a good place where you can go, listen, see how talented people are and because they’re speaking out about it you’re like wow this person who’s leading the orchestra, super high functioning but still struggles and is speaking about it can be really inspirational and uplifting to hear these stories.”That new score will premiere virtually on October 28th. A member of production on “The Batman” has tested positive for COVID-19 and the U.K shoot has been temporarily suspended. Multiple media outlets are reporting the film's star, Robert Pattinson, is the person who tested positive.A spokesperson for Warner Bros. said Thursday that the individual is isolating in accordance with established protocols and filming is temporarily paused. They would not release any other information about the situation or affected crew member.Vanity Fair and Deadline are both reporting Pattinson tested positive for coronavirus, however no other information about his situation was available.Pattinson is starring in the new film from director Matt Reeves which had resumed filming just a few days ago after an almost six-month hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.The film was originally supposed to hit theaters in June 2021 but was pushed back to October 2021 because of the production delays.Before filming was stopped earlier this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, enough was shot to put together a trailer for "The Batman." 1081

A two-year audit of Facebook's civil rights record found "serious setbacks" that have marred the social network's progress on matters such as hate speech, misinformation, and bias. The audit's leader, former American Civil Liberties Union executive Laura Murphy, was hired by Facebook in May 2018 to assess its performance on vital social issues. The final, 100-page report released Wednesday outlines a "seesaw of progress and setbacks" on everything from bias in Facebook's algorithms to content moderation, advertising practices, and voter suppression."The purpose of this Audit has always been to ensure that Facebook makes real and lasting progress on civil rights, and we do believe what’s listed below illustrates progress," Murphy said in the audit. "Facebook is in a different place than it was two years ago — some teams of employees are asking questions about civil rights issues and implications before launching policies and products. But as I’ve said throughout this process, this progress represents a start, not a destination. While the audit process has been meaningful and has led to some significant improvements in the platform, we have also watched the company make painful decisions over the last nine months with real-world consequences that are serious setbacks for civil rights."In a news release, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said that the release of the audit couldn't have come at a more important time. "Facebook stands firmly against hate," Sandberg said in the release. A significant earthquake shook the Los Angeles area Thursday afternoon, the US Geological Survey reports.Initial readings by the USGS report that the 5.3 magnitude quake struck about 60 miles off the Santa Monica coast near Santa Cruz island.There are currently no reports of any damage or injuries.
