A 23-year-old Oregon woman was arraigned on Monday and is facing criminal charges after being accused of ripping off a student's hijab and intentionally desecrating the hijab. Multnomah County (Oregon) District Attorney Rod Underhill announced that Jasmine Renee Campbell, pictured above, would face charges on two counts of bias crime in the second degree, one count of attempted strangulation, one count of harassment and one count of criminal mischief in the third degree. According to Underhill's office, Campbell allegedly approached a 24-year-old Portland State college student from behind and grabbed her hijab. Underhill said the unnamed victim was able to push Campbell away, which is when Campbell then allegedly forcibly took the hijab from the victim. Campbell was then accused of using the hijab to rub it on and across multiple exposed sexually intimate parts of her body, Underhill said, citing court documents. The student, who Underhill's office stated was from Saudi Arabia, said that she no longer feels safe wearing a hijab in public and is relying on alternative methods to cover herself, Underhill said, citing court documents. 1160

A family from Connecticut got quite the surprise when their 10-year-old son was called for jury duty.Fifth grade student Nick Dondero received the letter in the mail summoning him to show up.While the family found it a bit comical, they’re wondering how it even happened in the first place.Nick’s mom laughed about it and tucked it away.“Two, three weeks later, I’m going through to pay bills and I’m like ‘oh my gosh, I never sent this back,” she said. Each year, more than 550,000 people in Connecticut are selected for jury duty. The Connecticut Judicial Branch gets a list of names from four places: The Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the Dept. of Labor, Registrar of Voters, and the Dept. of Revenue Services. The list of names the Judicial Branch gets from Revenue Services does not include the date of birth. That is where Nick’s name came from and why he was summoned.“I was wondering what if I don’t go, I wanted to know if that was going to be a problem,” Nick said.It wasn’t a problem. The Judicial Branch said the Dondero family did the right thing. They checked a box on the summons letter saying he was underage and sent it back. Now, 10-year-old Nick is in the clear and does not have to report for jury duty. 1225

A collection of stars participated in the telling of a political drama filled with intrigue, foreign adversaries and dreams of power. But it wasn't Shakespeare: It was the Mueller report, adapted for the stage.Stars such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mark Hamill, John Lithgow and Alyssa Milano performed Monday night in a play based on the special counsel's report into Russian interference in the 2016 US election."The Investigation: A Search For the Truth in Ten Acts," was live streamed by Law Works, which hosted the event."Join us for an historic live play in 10 acts ripped from the pages of the Mueller report," their website reads. The play was written by Robert Schenkkan, who received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1992 for his play "The Kentucky Cycle." His play "All the Way" earned the 2014 Tony Award for best play."The play lets the facts and Mueller's words tell the story of a President who likely obstructed justice and a campaign that not only knew Russia wanted them to win, but welcomed it," David Wade, the executive director of Law Works, told CNN in a statement. After the reading of dialogue from the different players, the actors and actresses read excerpts from both Attorney General William Barr's and Mueller's news conferences. To conclude, they read portions of the Constitution about impeachment, and continued to give examples of why they believe the President is guilty of obstruction.Other actors participating are Alfre Woodard, Annette Bening, Piper Perabo, Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Kline, Frederick Weller, Ben McKenzie, Michael Shannon, Noah Emmerich, Justin Long, Jason Alexander, Gina Gershon, Wilson Cruz, Joel Grey, Zachary Quinto and Aidan Quinn.Louis-Dreyfus and Hamill recorded videos for the performance, according to Kevin McAlister, a spokesman for Law Works.Law Works "engages bipartisan voices and educates the public on the importance of the rule of law, the role of the special counsel in the justice system, and the integrity of our judicial institutions," according to their website. After years of investigating, the Department of Justice released a redacted copy of Mueller's report in April. Mueller's investigation into possible obstruction of justice could not clear Trump, and the redacted report details numerous cases in which Trump asked his aides to take actions that would have obstructed the investigation, but stated they were unsuccessful because the aides refused his orders.Mueller says in the report the investigation into possible collusion found members of the Trump campaign knew they would benefit from Russia's illegal actions to influence the election, but didn't take criminal steps to help. The play comes weeks before Arena Stage in Washington, DC, is set to present an 11-hour marathon reading of Volume 2 of the Mueller report, 2821

The CDC is investigating an alarming new trend that's sending people to the hospital across the country for lung issues. Doctors are reporting a spike in severe pulmonary illnesses possibly relating to e-cigarette products or vaping. There are now more than 150 cases in at least 16 states. One of those cases was 18-year-old Chance Ammirata, who ended up in a Florida hospital after he felt pain in his chest. “It was almost as if I was having a heart attack and I couldn't breathe,” he describes. It turns out his lung collapsed, which doctors say could have happened from something he inhaled. The teen blames vaping, which he started about a year and a half ago. “I didn't think vaping could have that effect on my lungs,” he says. In Texas, 17-year-old Trystan Zohfeld spent 18 days in the hospital and lost nearly 30 pounds after his lung failed. His doctors also believe vaping could have played a factor. According to the CDC, since June vaping has been linked to more than 153 mysterious cases of lung disease, spreading from coast to coast, in at least 16 states. The common link: vaping products that contain either nicotine or THC. “We've seen the damage and the dangers of nicotine addiction, but now, we see the possibility of lung problems and others,” says John Schachter with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Health advocates are pushing for the FDA to implement tougher restrictions, including a ban on flavored e-cigs, saying they target children. “Why are we waiting, God forbid, for a fatality? These are children. It's our job to protect them,” says Meredith Berkman, with Parents Against Vaping E-Cigarettes (PAVE). The American Vaping Association issued a statement saying in part, "the evidence continues to point to street-bought vaping cartridges containing THC or synthetic drugs as being the cause of these illnesses.” Meanwhile, Ammirata hopes telling his story will lead to more awareness.“I have thousands of messages of people telling me they quit due to my story, but more importantly due to their bravery,” the teen says. 2075

A Georgia homeowner shot and killed three masked teens as they approached his residence with their faces covered, authorities said. The three teens, one 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds, were all from the area but did not live in the specific neighborhood they were in, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said. The teens approached three residents at the front yard of a home early Monday morning and attempted to rob them, authorities say. One of the would-be robbers took out a gun and fired shots at them, before one of the residents returned fire."The victims of the attempted robbery were all uninjured, but the three attempted robbery suspects were all shot during the exchange of gunfire and succumbed to their injuries, one on scene and two at a local hospital after being transported," the sheriff's department said in a press release. One neighbor told CNN affiliate 887
