San Diego (KGTV)- With no warning, a light pole came crashing down on top of a car in Pacific Beach. Neighbors are worried that what they found could shine a light on a bigger problem. “It’s really scary that you can be walking down the street and something could fall out of the sky like that,” says neighbor Kevin Payne. Payne says he was walking in the area on Saturday, along Ingraham Street and Reed Avenue when he heard the loud crash. He says a San Diego lifeguard, who was driving by, stopped to section off the area until crews arrived. The base of the pole is filled with corrosion and rust. Neighbors say to the human eye it would have been tough to spot. “You wouldn’t notice just walking by, you would need to take off the cover of the base,” says Payne. “I think once you took the cover off it would have been clear as day.”In a statement to 10News, the city didn’t pinpoint the cause of the collapse but says the light is scheduled to be replaced this week. In the meantime, city crews will assess the other lights in the area to ensure they are “functional and stable.” The owner of the damaged car was not inside at the time. The city says she will need to make a claim with the Risk Management Department to determine who is liable. 1259

SAN FRANCISCO -- A massive fire broke out at a two-story commercial building in San Francisco Saturday night, according to KRON.The fire started inside the building and spread outward. The blaze took roughly 140 firefighters to extinguish.A total of eight people were displaced by the fire, but no one was injured.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 367

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- With the rainy season ahead, the City of San Diego is offering ways for residents to save money on their water bills by removing lawns and installing rain barrels. The City is offering .25 per square foot for lawns that are converted to turf that can capture rainfall for reuse. Homeowners that convert their lawn into drought resistant landscape can apply for financial rebates.Customers may receive  per gallon of barrel storage capacity for residential rainwater collecting up to 400 gallons or 0 per property. Rain barrels are a great way to conserve water and reuse for irrigation purposes as well as preventing pollution, according to city officials. Applications are available for Rainwater Harvest, to apply click here. For more information on the types of rebates and water conservation tips visit the City's website. 949

San Diego (KGTV)- Today marks 18 years since the terror attacks in New York. As millions around the country reflect on 9/11, San Diegans are honoring those who lost their lives that day. A ceremony was held at the Veterans Museum, in Balboa Park this morning, where many had a chance to ring America's Freedom Bell in honor of the victims. The names of all nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives were read. "Its that fear of this could happen again," says Michael Timson. "That's why we have to have tributes like this; to remember, to be ready, and to honor the people who lost their lives that day."America's Freedom Bell was first rung 23 times for the law enforcement officers who were killed. The bell was forged with 11 pounds of steel from the World Trade Center. "I saw the second plane hit and I said this isn't an accident. This is an attack," says Timson. "It was really hard for me to understand what was going on."The ceremony symbolically started at 8:46 a.m. to coincide with the time in which the first tower was hit. "These are people, innocent people, in two buildings and the pentagon that were hit by terrorists," says Richard Rovsek, Chairman of the Spirit of Liberty Foundation. "I think Americans should never forget that."Bell ringers will receive a personalized commemorative certificate which will include a full list of the victim's names.
