SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - NFL quarterback Drew Brees and his wife say a San Diego jeweler with lying and falsely represented the value of the jewelry sold to them.Vahid Moradi, founder of CJ Charles Jewelers in La Jolla, is accused of making friends with the Brees and then using his "relationship and position to induce" Brees to rely "on his false representations as to the investment quality and market value" of numerous diamonds, a lawsuit filed in San Diego said.In the lawsuit, Brees says he has spent multimillions of dollars in business with Moradi, purchasing jewelry as gifts and as investments.READ the lawsuit here."In total, [the Brees] invested approximately million in investment quality diamonds recommended by Moradi," the suit states. "The independent appraiser determined the true market value of the diamonds ... was approximately million less than the prices the [Brees] paid."Brees also alleges that Moradi "confessed he charged Plaintiffs a substantial markup," in one case charging a 550 percent markup, the suit alleges. Brees also argues that Moradi went so far as to conceal the true quality of the diamonds using "reflective and painted settings." Moradi has fought back against the allegation. His attorney issued a statement to 10News saying Brees has only himself to blame.RELATED: Radio show postponed after controversial tweet, new demands from Padres"Drew Brees aggressively purchased multi-million dollar pieces of jewelry. Years later, claiming to suffer ‘cash flow problems,’ he tried to bully my client into undoing the transactions," Eric George, Moradi's attorney, said. "Mr. Brees’s behavior and his belief that he was wronged because the jewelry did not appreciate in value as quickly as he hoped both demonstrate a lack of integrity and contradict basic principles of both economics and the law."He should restrict his game-playing to the football field, and refrain from bullying honest, hard-working businessmen like my client."Brees is suing for at least million in damages and court costs. 2123

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — President Trump's pardon of former Congressman Duncan Hunter came as no shock to the man who successfully prosecuted the case.“While I am appalled as a citizen, I am not surprised given the prior conduct of the president,” said Phil Halpern, who left the Justice Department after the case concluded.Halpern was one of the Assistant U.S. Attorneys who prosecuted Duncan Hunter and his wife Margaret in 2019. They were accused of misusing 0,000 of campaign contributions on everything from basic living expenses to lavish vacations, then falsifying reports.RELATED: President Trump grants full pardon to former Congressman Duncan HunterHunter called the charges a political hit job, but in December 2019 pleaded guilty to one felony count, ultimately resigning. His 11-month prison term was set to start in January, but President Trump pardoned him Tuesday.Halpern said seeing the case through was still worth it to demonstrate that the people who write the laws are not above them.“It was important not only that he be convicted, but he admit his wrongdoing. He spent too much time claiming that his prosecution was political,” Halpern said.RELATED: Margaret Hunter granted full pardon by White House, one day after former CongressmanOn Wednesday, Hunter's father, former Congressman Duncan Lee Hunter, maintained the charges were political and that the issue should have been handled civilly by the Federal Election Commission, as spelled out in a letter of support from former FEC commissioner Bradley Smith.“At the end of the line you've got one last receptacle of justice, and that's the President of the United States,” Duncan Lee Hunter said. “And he looked at this, a Marine Corps marathon, First Lady’s luncheon. They’re going to try to put this guy in jail for that? (President Trump) saw the injustice of that.”Duncan Hunter is now working for a construction company, his father said.RELATED: President Trump issues more pardons of alliesHalpern said the case was not politically motivated, noting that the Justice Department was run by a Republican in William Barr. He said he never felt pressure to ease off, and that the dollar amounts were well beyond anything that could be handled by the commission. On Wednesday, Trump also pardoned Margaret Hunter, who was sentenced to eight months of home confinement. Speaking before that announcement, Halpern said Margaret should be pardoned if Duncan is as well. 2447

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police officers saved a parrot from a hot car in Sorrento Valley, as temperatures reached upwards of 120 degrees inside the vehicle.San Diego Police say someone noticed a Macaw parrot in a car in distress at a hotel parking lot in the 11000 block of Vista Sorrento Parkway. A San Diego Humane Society officer responded and tried to break the window, before calling SDPD for assistance.Police broke the window and removed the parrot and rushed it to a veterinarian.A police officer told ABC 10News that the temperature in the car was at least 120 degrees. The bird only had a cup of liquid in a Big Gulp cup and no food. It's a misdemeanor to leave an animal unattended in a hot vehicle.San Diego Humane Society said the parrot is doing okay and the owners have been reached to reclaim the bird."Cars get hot very fast, so we advise never to leave an animal unattended in car, especially when it is warm outside. Even with the windows open, a parked car can quickly become a furnace. If the temperature outside is 80 degrees, the temperature inside your car can quickly climb to 120 degrees. I hope this helps," said Nina Thompson from San Diego Humane Society. 1186
