PARIS (AP) — Paris city hall has been fined 90,000 euros (9,408) for having appointed too many women to top positions in 2018, in breach of a law aimed at ensuring gender balance. In 2018, 11 women and 5 men — representing just over 30% — were appointed to senior positions in the Paris city hall. A 2013 law required a minimum of 40% of appointments for each gender. PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- On dueling sides of the street at Philadelphia’s Center City, supporters of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are facing off.“Stop that cheat!” Trump supporters yelled.The epicenter of the vote count in Pennsylvania has been the convention center in Philadelphia, where hundreds of thousands of ballots have been tabulated post-Election Day.“Every vote is sacred!” Biden supporters exclaimed.While there were no reported widespread problems in the state on Election Day, the nonpartisan group “Common Cause Pennsylvania,” said the state could do more to improve on this year’s election.The state legislature previously voted that election officials could not count early and mail-in ballots until Election Day, which delayed results from Pennsylvania. That would be something worth revisiting, Common Cause said.There were also some issues involving people being given provisional ballots – those are the ballots of last resort – when those voters should’ve been allowed to vote using a regular ballot. That was chalked up to an election worker training issue.On top of that, Common Cause Pennsylvania had reports of some people waiting as long as three hours to vote.“That's a barrier, right? People have to work and people have child care, elder care responsibilities,” said Suzanne Almeida, director of Common Cause Pennsylvania. “So, even though vote by mail took a huge burden off that in-person voting, which is fantastic, we're really excited about that, I think there's still more to be done to make sure that that process runs smoothly.”However, there are still a few outstanding issues in Pennsylvania, including those ballots that were post-marked on Election Day, but received after that day, through Friday of that week. (CNS) - With the coronavirus pandemic still raging in Southern California, the 2021 Rose Parade was officially canceled Wednesday, but the fate of the Rose Bowl Game remains in limbo."The health and well-being of our parade participants and guests, as well as that of our volunteer members, professional staff and partners, is our number one priority," Bob Miller, president of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association said in a statement. "Obviously this is not what any of us wanted, and we held off on announcing until we were absolutely sure that safety restrictions would prevent us from continuing with planning for 132nd Rose Parade."It's only the fourth time since 1891 that the parade has been canceled, with the three previous cancellations occurring during the wartime years of 1942, 1943 and 1945.Although the New Year's Day tradition was technically still months away, planning for the elaborate floral floats that highlight the event -- and arranging for the often international travel of participating marching bands and equestrian groups -- is a nearly yearlong process, necessitating an early decision on whether to hold the event.
