SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Workers around San Diego make more than the national average, according to a new U.S. Bureau or Labor Statistics report. The report shows that San Diegans make roughly .93 per hour, 12 percent more than the national average of .98. Management jobs paid the highest, with an average of just over per hour, followed by legal occupations at .43. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two separate clinical trials for phase three COVID-19 vaccines will resume in San Diego next week after AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson paused their students to find out why some participants became ill.“Pauses like this are absolutely common in large phase three trials so people should not be alarmed,” said Dr. Susan Little, the trial director for both studies that UC San Diego is set to take part in. “Studies will only resume when they are deemed safe for the study participants.”Little said not only are pauses like this common, but they also prove that the safety review process is working as it should.“Part of the reason we want people to understand that these are common is they will probably occur again, AstraZeneca with 30,000 people, Johnson & Johnson 60,000 people. It would be surprising if we don’t have another pause,” she explained.Little said once a trial is paused, it is immediately investigated by the independent Data Safety and Monitoring Board (DSMB). The board reviews the issues and determines if they are related to the trial.“In this case, the event and all other safety events were reviewed and deemed not related,” she said.The AstraZeneca study is scheduled to start on Monday, and UCSD will be using a mobile vaccine clinic that will travel from Chula Vista, La Mesa, and Imperial Beach.The Johnson & Johnson study is scheduled for Tuesday in National City, where trailers have been set up as a clinic at El Toyon Park.“We are signing people up right now to have scheduled visits next week,” said Little. “Safety will always remain the number one priority for study participants.”Those interested in participating in the study can sign up here.Participants must be 18 years or older and in generally good health. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With young children fast asleep in their bedroom, surveillance video shows a burglar on the prowl at a home in South Park. Just off 32nd Street, Billy McCowan woke up to a disturbing sight on Wednesday morning."Came over and saw the side door open to the garage," said McCowan.RELATED: La Mesa woman wakes up to burglar in her bedroomA look at the surveillance video revealed who had been on his property. Starting at about 8 p.m., a pickup truck pulls up and parks across from his home. At about 5 a.m., a man wrapped in a blanket emerges from the truck and walks through his front gate.McCowan believes the burglar walked through the unlocked door to a detached garage - a converted office - and grabbed an iPhone. Video shows the man roaming the property. Next up was a detached hot tub room."We had a small TV in here," said McCowan.In the video, the burglar is seen carrying that TV. Meanwhile, inside the home were McCowan's wife, and two children, ages 3 and 5. They were all asleep.Forty-five minutes after the man first arrives, the intruder is seen peering into the children's bedroom. By this time, McCowan has woken up and he's making coffee in the kitchen. The man appears to see him and ducks down, before quietly getting into his truck and driving off. It was a fortunate twist. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Wendy Caceres smiled as two salon workers doted over her hair and makeup. It was a momentary break from the last two-and-a-half months when she's been worried about many things, least of all herself.On August 15, Caceres gave birth to her son Santino at 29 weeks. He's been in the NICU at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital ever since."Very traumatizing, honestly," Caceres said over the hum of hair dryers at Robert Cromeans Salon downtown. "I don't take time for myself really," she said. "It's really cool they did this, honestly."Caceres was one of eight NICU moms treated to a hair and makeup makeover at the salon Monday during an event organized by March of Dimes.The event came on the same day the March of Dimes released a report card showing the premature birth rate in the U.S. rose for the fourth straight year to 10.02 percent.Preterm birth rates worsened in 30 states. California fared better than the national average. In San Diego County, the rate actually improved year-over-year to 8.4 percent.It's still largely a mystery why some women deliver early. Still, March of Dimes says there are several known risk factors, including poverty, lack of health insurance, and inadequacy of prenatal care.The March of Dimes issued a number of policy recommendations nationally, including: Expanding group prenatal care.Ensuring that women have access to public health insurance programs.Expanding Medicaid to cover individuals with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level to improve maternal and infant health.Making sure all women have Medicaid coverage for at least one year postpartum.To read the full report, click here. 1667
