SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A teenager is publicly apologizing after admitting to vandalizing a park in Scripps Ranch last December. Jerabek park was vandalized on December 8, 2018. Days later, the Scripps Ranch Civic Association offered a reward to find the person who vandalized the field. Neighbors said they believed a large truck drove in circles on the field, destroying the turf. In the association’s August newsletter, the unidentified teenager admits to vandalizing the grass. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A would-be purse snatcher was caught by San Diego Police in Normal Heights Tuesday thanks to witnesses.Stephanie Moore says she was inside the Vons on Adams Avenue and 36th Street when a man grabbed her purse.As soon as it happened, Moore says she started chasing after the suspect. “I am a tough girl and the first thing I do is act instead of react.”Rocco Estello and two other good Samaritans tell 10News they saw the incident happen when they also ran after the suspect, calling police in the process."We caught up to him, but he took off this way and SDPD caught up to him, which is a really, really good blessing because it makes me feel better to be on these streets,” said Estello.The man was arrested and the purse returned. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego resident is one of three patients across California infected with salmonella linked to an herbal supplement.The 44-year-old resident is the latest patient in the multi-state outbreak, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Service Agency.The supplement, kratom, is used as a stimulant and opioid substitute. It's also known as thang, kakuam, thom, ketom, biak, and Mitragyna speciosa, according to county health officials.RELATED: 28 sick in salmonella outbreak linked to kratom, CDC saysThe San Diego patient fell ill in January but has since recovered. They were not hospitalized, officials said.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified at least 40 cases of salmonellosis in 27 states. Fourteen patients have been hospitalized. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After a week of sifting through ashes of the devastating Camp Fire in Northern California, San Diego firefighters are back home tonight. The San Diego Urban Search and Rescue Task Force searched over 1,500 burned structures in the city of Paradise, Calif. Battalion Chief David Gerboth says many did not survive the devastation. Crews were ordered to look for 1- to 5-inch bone fragments of those who might be missing. “We went into a career to save people and we knew going up there that that wasn’t the mission. It was to provide closure for some families,” says Gerboth. The air quality was also a big challenge for firefighters.“There’s a lot of ash, there's a lot of debris. We were constantly wearing respiratory protection," he added.The task force was also away from their loved ones on Thanksgiving. Firefighters say this mission hit home for many of them.“It was definitely a challenge for all of us,” said Brady Holden. “Whatever little problems that you would deal with throughout the day, as you were driving back to the base camp you look around at the devastation, it really put it all into perspective that my problems really aren’t that bad.”The task force had to report all of the structures as clear before leaving. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A third Marine has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus at MCAS Miramar.The Marine is currently quarantined at his home, MCAS Miramar officials told 10News.Navy medical staff is investigating anyone the Marine may have had contact with, as well.No further information on the base's third case was immediately released.Last week, a Marine tested positive for coronavirus after returning from leave in Washington state where he was visiting family. Then Saturday, the base confirmed a second Marine tested positive for the virus.Those two Marines are currently in isolation and quarantined in an empty barracks that was designated to treat potential cases of COVID-19.MCAS Miramar is currently a quarantine site for individuals evacuated from Wuhan last month and passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship. Those quarantined passengers are being treated by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention staff.The two Marines who had contracted coronavirus last week did not have any contact with cruise passengers, according to the base. MCAS Miramar officials say the base has implemented increased hygiene practices in accordance with the CDC to treat personnel. 1199
