KHARTOUM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Karti said on Friday his visit to China carried reassurances and confirmations to the Chinese side his government keenness to enhance cooperation with China even after a referendum to be held in southern Sudan."We have delivered a message on our keenness on continuation in enhancing the cooperation with China and expanding its investments in the country, particularly in north Sudan," Karti told reporters at Khartoum airport today upon return from a tour that included China and Egypt."China is an important country for Sudan and we are keen to fully coordinate with it, particularly with regard to current international issues. We are expecting China to play an important role in the international meeting on Sudan, scheduled for September 24, 2010," he added.He further stressed that Sudan was looking forward to enhancing ties with China, saying that "I have held consultations with the Chinese leadership on many issues and we have agreed on coordination during the forthcoming meetings of the United Nations General Assembly."The Sudanese minister described his visit to China as "one of the best official visits," adding that "we have managed to convey our viewpoint on many issues that has received complete response on the part of the Chinese leadership."On January 9, 2011, the southern Sudanese are expected to vote in a referendum on self-determination for southern Sudan to opt between unity or separation according to the provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), inked between north and south Sudan in 2005, and the Sudanese Constitution.The referendum would be considered legal if fifty eight percent of the registered voters participated in the referendum, and if the quorum was incomplete, there would be re-voting with the same terms in 60 days of the announcement of the referendum result.The result of the referendum would be decided by a simple majority of fifty percent plus one of the votes.

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Monday pledged to work with Cuba to lift the friendly bilateral relationship to a new level.Wang made the remarks while meeting with Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba.Cabrisas is in China to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.Cuba was the first Latin American nation to forge diplomatic relations with China, in 1960.Wang spoke highly of the development of China-Cuba ties over the past half a century, noting that the two countries have always supported each other and enjoyed frequent high level visits.China will work with Cuba to expand win-win cooperation and strengthen economic and trade links with a view to further advancing bilateral ties, Wang said.Wang said China will continue to help Cuba within its capacity.Cabrisas thanked China for offering economic and technological assistance to his country.He said Cuba will make concerted efforts with China to promote pragmatic cooperation in various sectors while pushing forward the existing sound bilateral relationship.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- China has decided to postpone a negotiation with Japan on the East China Sea issue as part of its response to the seizure of a Chinese fishing boat, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu Friday night.The postponed talks, the second governmental negotiations on the principle common understandings on the East China Sea issue, had been scheduled for mid September, according to Jiang.A Japanese court on Friday, despite Chinese protests, ruled a 10-day detention through Sept.19 against the captain of a Chinese trawler which collided with Japanese patrol ships off the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea on Tuesday.The Chinese trawler under detention stops at the harbor of Ishigaki, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 9, 2010. Japan Coast Guard sent the captain of the Chinese trawler which collided with Japanese patrol ships in waters off Diaoyu Islands to prosecutors in Okinawa Prefecture Thursday morning."The Japanese side has ignored China's repeated solemn representations and firm opposition, and obstinately decided to put the Chinese captain under the so-called judiciary procedures. China expresses strong discontent and grave protest," Jiang said."The Diaoyu islands and its adjacent islets have been Chinese territory since ancient times.
