BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart announced Tuesday that it’s giving out another round of cash bonuses to its workers and that it will be closed on Thanksgiving this year.BonusesThe retail giant says full-time hourly associates will receive 0, while its part-time and temporary associates will be paid 0.Associates at the company’s stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers will qualify, as will drivers, managers, and assistant managers. BLACK FOREST, Colo. — A young buck gored a Black Forest woman Friday and now Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers have cited a neighbor for her illegal contact with the animal.CPW cited Tynette Housley, 73, with illegal possession of wildlife and illegally feeding wildlife after she told officers she took a days-old fawn into her home more than a year ago and raised it. They also issued a warning for possession of live wildlife without a license for keeping the animal in her home, garage, and property.CPW said the victim was walking her dog along a wooden path Friday morning when the 1.5-year-old buck attacked her. The victim told CPW she thought the deer wanted to be "snuggled" when it approached her. When she extended her hand to the deer, it lowered its antlers and jabbed her abdomen.The victim then grabbed the deer's antlers and they fell to the ground. It continued to gore her until she got to her feet, tried to run to a neighbor's home, and, eventually, her own garage. The deer continued to attack her until she ran between two cars in the garage to getaway.She was hospitalized for serious lacerations to the top of her head, left cheek and legs, but is expected to recover.A young buck approached an investigating CPW officer near the victim's home with blood on its antlers acting aggressively and the officer euthanized the deer.“This buck showed no fear of the woman and her dog. And when our officer responded to the scene, it approached within a few feet," said Frank McGee, area wildlife manager for the Pikes Peak region. "This tells me the deer was very comfortable around people. Dangerously comfortable. It viewed humans as a source of food.”According to CPW, human conflict with wildlife is increasing throughout Colorado, particularly in Front Range communities where human populations are expanding. McGee is concerned similar attacks will happen if people don't take state laws forbidding feeding wildlife seriously.“We had a young boy attacked in Colorado Springs in June. And we had a 72-year-old woman attacked and seriously injured in Black Forest in 2017. All three are lucky the results weren’t much worse,” McGee said.Housley could face up to ,098.50 in fines and surcharges from the two misdemeanors.The deer was taken to a lab to test it for rabies and other diseases. Its stomach contents confirmed humans were feeding the deer. The incident remains under investigation.“We can’t say it enough: Wild animals are not pets,” McGee said. “Feeding deer habituates them to humans. They lose their fear of humans and that leads to these outcomes that are tragic for both wildlife and people. BLOOMINGTON — The mother of an Indiana University football player who is battling COVID-19 wants everyone to realize the importance of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.Brady Feeney is a freshman offensive lineman for the Hooisers from St. Louis. His mother, Debbie Rucker, took to Facebook Monday with a plea: Take COVID-19 seriously, wear a mask and exercise social distancing.Feeney is battling the virus as questions remain on whether the college football season will be played this fall. The Big Ten announced it plans on playing a conference-only schedule this fall. With her son's permission, Rucker shared his story:My son was negative when he got tested at the beginning of volunteer workouts. Within three weeks he and multiple others tested positive. His university has done everything right by shutting down workouts and retesting the whole team.Unfortunately this virus hit my son very hard compared to most of his teammates. Here was a kid in perfect health, great physical condition and due to the virus ended up going to the ER because of breathing issues.After 14 days of hell battling the horrible virus, his school did additional testing on all those that were positive. My son even received extra tests because he was one of the worst cases. Now we are dealing with possible heart issues!He is still experiencing additional symptoms and his blood work is indicating additional problems. Bottom line, even if your son’s schools do everything right to protect them, they CAN’T PROTECT THEM!!I pray my son recovers from this horrible virus and can lead a healthy normal life!! Bills are mounting for many Americans and another one being added to the pile for some on unemployment is a bill to pay back the money they were given.“This is a massive financial hardship,” said Michele Evermore with the National Employment Law Project (NELP).Evermore explained the notice to pay back unemployment is most often due to an error somewhere in the application process or when an applicant filed for continued benefits each week."Either the agency made a mistake, or someone clicked the wrong button on a form somewhere and now are being informed that they have been overpaid for months and now have to payback tens of thousands of dollars,” she added.In some cases, when an error was found on one week, the agency disqualified people for the entire time they were unemployed.“That is a lot of money and it is money that people spent on housing and food and they have no way to get it back,” said Evermore.It is unclear on a national level just how many people are getting notices of overpayment. That’s, in part, because states are just starting to look into this and report. However, so far, states like Texas reported it is seeking refunds from 260,000 people, Ohio announced it overpaid at least 160,000 people, and in Virginia, the number of people overpaid is at least 35,000.“We are going to hear a lot more of this happening in a lot more states, and we are going to hear a lot more horror stories if this legislation isn’t passed,” explained Evermore.In its stimulus package, the House of Representatives has included legislation that would waive the unemployment overpayments as long as they aren’t considered fraudulent activity. However, the package is unpopular with the Senate. NELP believes the forgiveness is critical to those on unemployment and our economy.“It was estimated during the last recession that every dollar spent on unemployment insurance generated .61 in local economic activity,” said Evermore. "So, imagine that in reverse, imagine that money getting sucked out of communities as we are still in very rough economic times.”Without federal waivers, that could be a reality. NELP added that people in a situation where they have received a notice of overpayment have two options to consider, if they cannot afford to repay the benefit. In some states, you can file for a waiver, especially if the mistake was made on the part of the states’ unemployment system.
