SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- When asked if his success is surreal, comedian Jo Koy said: "I earned it."Jo Koy, whose real name is Joseph Herbert, knew he wanted to be a comedian since the age of 11. He has been in the comedy scene since the late 1980s and said he "kept grinding." That hard work paid off as Koy is now getting ready to film his third Netflix special and performs to sold-out audiences across the country. Family has been a central theme in his routine, often talking about raising his teenage son and growing up with his Filipino mom. His son, now 16, is getting involved in helping dad refine his show. "He's an associate producer on [the Netflix special] 'Comin' in Hot.' He came up with my last joke... he's the one that told me to wear what I was wearing. That outfit, he picked it out," Koy said.Koy tells 10News his mom loves the attention, "My mom always wants more!" Koy said. When asked if there was enough diversity and inclusion in comedy, the half-Filipino artist he feels like the doors are now, "open and there's a lot more opportunity, but we still have a long way to go." He's not going to get much time to check out the sights in San Diego. He's focusing on work and putting on great shows at the Civic Theater this week. "I stay working, man! I'll stop working when I die! I'm always going to do stand-up," Koy said. "This is my passion. I'll be 80 and I'll be on stage... this is what I was born to do." SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Neighbors in Del Cerro say an intersection near their homes is a hot spot for accidents and speeding, with the latest incident occurring Monday night.The streets and intersection in question are Madra Avenue and Del Cerro Boulevard. Denisse Newell took cell phone video during the aftermath of Monday’s accident. Newell says she’s reached out to City of San Diego officials to ask that something be done to make drivers slow down.Another neighbor, Emily Broadwater, says she was involved in an accident at the intersection in 2018 after a man didn’t stop at the stop sign. Her minivan was totaled.Newell says her dog was also hit by a speeding car and survived the accident. Her husband has stopped walking their children to school after multiple close calls. Neighbors worry that the next time it’ll be a person. The women say they’d like the city to implement like speed bumps, a stoplight or roundabouts to get drivers to slow down.ABC 10News reached out to San Diego City Councilman Scott Sherman’s office, who represents the district. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds of families are sleeping at Liberty Station Saturday night to raise awareness and money for the homeless in San Diego. The event is an annual tradition for the The San Diego Rescue Mission. Families participating in the event sleep on cots and tents made of cardboard to experience what homeless experience on a daily basis. Participants also build hygiene kits, blankets, and pet packs for the homeless. This year, the event included a concert, food, and a prayer session to pray for those that don't have a home. All of the proceeds raised at the event go to the San Diego Rescue Mission. 636

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google is restarting a practice in which human contractors listen to and transcribe some voice commands people give to the company's artificial intelligence system, Assistant. But this time Google is taking steps to make sure people know what they are agreeing to.The company suspended its transcription practices after more than 1,000 Dutch-language recordings were leaked to the media in Belgium this summer. Google required users to opt-in to the service before audio transcriptions were recorded, but critics have said people didn't fully understand they were agreeing to allow human transcribers to listen in because the company's language was unclear.Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook have all used similar practices. The companies say it helps make their AI systems more accurate.Now Google will require users to agree again to voice transcription and make it clear human transcribers might listen to recordings. People don't have to opt-in to the service, but certain Assistant features won't be available if they don't.The company also said it will delete most recordings after a few months, and people can review their recordings and delete them manually at any time. 1210

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has voted to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California’s sanctuary laws.The board voted 3-1 Tuesday afternoon to support the lawsuit. The board directed that the County’s attorney to file an amicus brief supporting the federal lawsuit.The deadline to file a brief passed, so Chairwoman Kristin Gaspar said the earliest the county can file a brief is if the ruling is appealed to a higher court.RELATED: Escondido City Council votes to support sanctuary policy lawsuitSupervisor Greg Cox was the only one opposed to supporting the lawsuit.
