YICHUN, Heilongjiang, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The government of Yichun, a city in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has corrected Tuesday night's plane crash death toll to 42, saying one dead body that was torn apart in the disaster was formerly counted as two.A local publicity official said earlier on that 43 dead bodies were retrieved.According to the death roll released by the city government, the dead were aged roughly from 12 to 55, calculated from their birth dates indicated in their ID numbers. Among them, however, was a Chinese holding a passport and three crew members whose ID numbers were not available.Rescuers wrapped up the bodies early on Wednesday and have transported them to the city's funeral homes for families to identify them.The ERJ-190 jet, manufactured by the Brazilian aerospace conglomerate Embraer with maximum passenger capacity of 108, crashed near the runaway of Lindu airport of Yichun at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday, some 40 minutes after it took off from the provincial capital Harbin.Ninety-one passengers, including five children, and five crew members boarded the plane, sources with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said.Officials in Yichun confirmed a group of officials from Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security were also on board, including a vice minister and six division chiefs. Most of them survived with injuries, and the vice minister Sun Baoshu was in critical condition.

BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The state-owned assets in China's centrally-administered state-owned enterprises (SOE) reached 2.01 trillion yuan (297.40 billion U.S. dollars) by the end of June, up 10.71 percent from 2008, China's state-owned assets regulator said on Thursday.Nearly a quarter of the SOEs have state-owned assets over 10 billion yuan each, while six have state-owned assets over 100 billion yuan, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission said in a statement on its website."China's state-owned capital has been flowing towards big companies with international competitiveness," said the statement.Some 30 central SOEs are listed as Fortune 500 companies. They are in sectors such as telecommunications, power generation and petro-chemicals.The number of China's central SOEs is 123 in August this year, down from 196 at the beginning of 2003.

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 50 people have been killed and 15 are missing following floods, landslides and mud flows that hit parts of central and southern China following days of torrential rains, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Saturday.Nearly 17.2 million residents in nine provinces were affected by flood-related disasters and 597,000 people were relocated from July 1 to 12 a.m. of July 10, the ministry said in its latest disaster relief update.About 946,500 hectares of farmland were damaged, including 133,900 hectares that were completely destroyed. Further, more than 42,000 houses collapsed and another 121,000 were damaged, the ministry said, estimating that direct economic losses could reach 8.9 billion yuan (1.3 billion U.S. dollars).The ministry sent 6,000 tents to the hardest-hit Hubei Province in central China and Chongqing Municipality in southwest China on Saturday.In June, torrential rains had resulted in 260 deaths and left 211 missing in 11 southern provinces.The latest round of storms began to pound large swaths of central and southern China on July 8.In Hubei, the local weather forecast bureau said storms or thunder storms could hit the province again from July 11 to 13. About 7,500 residents were evacuated from the flooded zones.Also, four miners were killed in a gas explosion after heavy rain cut off electricity and stopped ventilation equipment at a coal mine in Xishui County of Guizhou's Zunyi City early Saturday morning. Seven of the 25 miners who were working underground managed to escape when the explosion occurred. Rescuers later saved 14 other miners.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the massive mudslide in northwest China's Gansu Province has risen to 1,156 as of 4 p.m. Friday, with 588 still missing, local authorities said.The toll stood at 1,144 by Thursday afternoon.More than 1,500 survivors are living in tents or school classrooms while 8,300 have sought shelter with relatives and friends, said Zhao Minxue, head of the publicity department in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture which administers Zhouqu.Water and power supplies, and telecommunication services in Zhouqu are gradually back to normal thanks to swift repair efforts.Power has been resumed in the key regions of the county seat and at 60 percent of households, the provincial information office said in a statement Friday.Relief teams are digging new wells after finding two new drinking water sources and 21 unpolluted wells, it said.Gansu had received 120.4 million yuan (17.7 million U.S. dollars) in cash donations and relief materials by Friday afternoon, the provincial department of civil affairs said.Meanwhile, relief workers continued to clear the water course of the Bailong River, which overflowed after being blocked by debris, amid fears that more downpours could trigger new floods and mudslides.Rescuers tried to give dignity to the deceased as they were striving to search bodies in the debris. URUMQI, June 28 (Xinhua) -- China sent two chartered aircraft carrying 26 tonnes of new relief materials to Kyrgyzstan early Monday to help refugees who suffered shortages of supplies after violent ethnic clashes this month.The two China Southern Airlines Boeing 757 cargo aircraft brought the materials to the southern Kyrgyzstan city of Osh from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a spokesman with the carrier's Xinjiang Branch said.The aid materials worth 3 million yuan (440,000 U.S. dollars) include rice, oil, biscuits, black tea, milk powder, blankets, clothes, stationary and sanitary materials, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang in a press release."China hopes the aid will help Kyrgyz authorities to resettle the refugees," Qin said.China Southern Airlines, one of the country's leading carriers, has been heavily involved in the evacuation of Chinese nationals and transportation of relief supplies after clashes broke out between Kyrgyz and ethnic Uzbeks in Osh in mid-June.The clashes later spread to the region of Jalalabad, leaving 210 people dead and 2,100 injured.Since June 15, China has sent charter planes to ship altogether 80 tonnes of relief supplies, worth 11 million yuan, to Kyrgyzstan and neighboring Uzbekistan which was flooded with Kyrgyz refugees after the clashes, according to China Southern Airlines.
