Also, school, food supply and public transportation workers.One issue with that first tier is that's a lot of people, more than 90 million by some estimates.“So, it’s quite possible when a vaccine is available, there won’t be enough available for everybody in this top tier and so there may need to be prioritization within this top tier,” said Dr. Eric Toner, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.The second-tier group includes other health care workers, people living in remote locations without access to quality care, and other essential workers like delivery, military, and first responders.It also includes people who live in places where they can’t socially distance, so inmates and people in shelters.The framework also mentions this is a decision that shouldn't only be made by experts and officials.“The public needs an opportunity to weigh in on this because, after all, they are the ones who are the recipients of the vaccines and whether they get it or not,” said Toner.The good news is the scholars don't see cost as a barrier to the vaccine. And while a vaccine is the best hope for controlling the pandemic, it will not be a magic bullet right away.“If we have a vaccine sometime this winter that’s authorized, it will be many months before everybody has access to it,” said Toner.Some decisions about who gets the vaccine first can't be made until one is ready, because you need to know how it may impact groups like the elderly or pregnant women. 2055

When COVID-19 forced businesses to reduce capacity, restaurants had to get creative. Many opened up outdoor space to dine.Now, with winter coming, restaurants are scrambling to figure out how to keep outdoor spaces comfortable.“We won a James Beard award here. I think what we’re known for is amazing food and service and great wine,” said Chef Jennifer Jasinski, owner of Crafted Concepts Restaurant Group. Rioja is one of the restaurants.“We’re just trying to plan. Hope for the best, plan for the worst,” Jasinski said.Like many restaurants across the U.S., Rioja is struggling with bringing business back and following physical distancing guidelines.“The order that let us increase our patio at each of our restaurants was a really big help over the summer. It got us to about 65 to 70% of our prior year occupancy,” Jasinski said.Outdoor space has been the saving grace for many.The National Restaurant Association Research Group conducted a survey of more than 3,500 restaurant operators from August 26 to September 1 nationwide.“Places that have table service, approximately three fourths are currently utilizing outdoor space which is a very large percentage,” said Mike Whatley, vice president of state and local affairs for the National Restaurant Association. “And it's making up an average of 44% of daily sales, which is very high by historical standards. Almost half of their money currently is coming from outdoor dining.” But outdoor space may present some challenges in the coming months.“Equipment for outdoor dining, especially when it gets cold, it gets expensive,” Whatley said. “What we found is that the average restaurateur is hoping to utilize their outdoor space two months more from this point moving forward.”“It’s absolutely terrifying. I feel like it’s 'Game of Thrones' and winter is coming and I’m scared. It’s not white walkers, I’m just scared of the occupancy,” Jasinski said. And she’s not alone.Many restaurants across the country are facing the same battle, and searching for solutions. The City of Chicago is reaching out to help by hosting a Winter Design Challenge, inviting the community to reimagine the winter outdoor dining experience for a prize.It’s similar to how Larimer Square in Denver, Colorado, where Rioja is located, was re-imagined, by letting the community have a say.“It wasn't just about the seating capacity, it was about the experience itself of being on the street and I mean really, it’s worked,” Jon Buerge said. Buerge is the Chief Development Officer at Urban Villages, the property management company in charge of Larimer Square, a prime example of the “Street-ery” concept.“This 'street-ery' concept is a new one where you block off a street in an urban area, and allow restaurants to take over some of that space. We’re seeing that in a number of jurisdictions,” Whatley said.“Some of the things that we've been exploring are tent systems that could be heated and, on a nice day, you can roll up the walls,” Buerge said. He said solutions really depend on the place.“Seattle has been slower to reopen. The people in Seattle have been less willing to go out and restaurants have been closed for longer. So it depends on the market, it depends on the weather, it depends on whether the people in these cities are ready to come out,” he said.As temperatures drop, restaurants are weighing the benefits and costs of seating diners outdoors.“There's all these hoops we have to jump through for less dollars,” Jasinski said. “I haven't heard of anybody else having any brilliant ideas that don't cost a ton of money.” 3588

We were getting views that we never seen before.”Though buying sports cards in person is still profitable, Fruitman says fewer cards are becoming available.“The amount of people who are opening up card stores or becoming breakers, it’s all just taffy,” he said. “And that taffy is just getting slowly apart. Everybody getting less and less it seems.”Card collectors believe the future of this industry depends on part of the popularity.“Right now, you’ve got videos of Mark Wahlberg opening up boxes with his kids,” Fruitman said. “Steve Aoki is a very large, popular DJ, has opened up his own sports card trading store in L.A.”For now, sports cards are combining entertainment and economics with no signs of slowing down.“It depends on how much you can invest,” one collector said. “But yeah, there’s plenty of money to be made.” 1791

  

When a hidden camera snapped a picture of Cross River gorillas including several infants in Nigeria this summer, conservationists were thrilled.This subspecies of gorilla is one of the most endangered, with only an estimated 300 individual animals believed to exist. They live along the border of Nigeria and Cameroon, in western Africa.The Wildlife Conservation Society captured images of the Cross River gorillas in Nigeria’s Mbe Mountains in May and June. Their camera traps have only captured images of Cross River gorillas a handful of times since being set up in 2012. WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — An Ohio man who flew to Palm Beach County in order to smoke a joint with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago ended up under arrest instead, according to a sheriff's office report.The report says 27-year-old Tyler Jon Marrone of Columbus, Ohio, arrived at Palm Beach International Airport on April 18, the same day the president was hosting?Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Palm Beach.Marrone said he found a credit card that he thought was a gift from God so: "I bought myself a plane ticket to Florida to go see the President," the report states.A detective investigating the case said Marrone intended to drive to Mar-a-Lago, walk in and talk to Mr. Trump about "the static and frequency feedback that I constantly hear emanating from my basement and from fans and in my head." He wanted to figure out what they are saying, the report noted.Marrone also admitted that he had been kicked out of the Supreme Court Building in Ohio as well as several courthouses, according to the report.It was decided that Marrone met criteria for the Baker Act, which allows for an individual to be involuntarily committed.An investigator said while checking Marrone's bag a white substance was discovered that later tested positive for methamphetamine. The sheriff's office charged Marrone with possession of a schedule II substance. 1400
