SAN DIEGO — A former San Diego doctor who was caught watching child porn at work will have his license reinstated.The news of the reinstatement became available this week, in documents provided by the California Medical Board.Former psychiatrist Mark Zweifach went in front of the board three weeks ago for a hearing on reinstating his license. Some of the paperwork reads, "While at work, on his Kaiser-issued computer, [he] viewed inappropriate images, including child pornography."“I didn't collect it. I didn't produce it. I didn't distribute it, but I viewed it,” he told the board during his recent hearing.Since then, Zweifach’s become an active part of the San Diego community, according to his online resumes. A 2014 La Jolla Light website article about a local puppet guild shows a photo of Zweifach as a puppeteer operating a large, red puppet.As of late July, he was listed as a board member of the San Diego Puppetry Guild’s website. The day after the guild was contacted by reporters, his name was removed.Documents outline his road to rehabilitation, like a 12-step “Sexaholics Anonymous” program and “regular therapy.”During his recent hearing, he describes having confronted whatever happened to him as a kid that apparently made him vulnerable to addiction.“I did have a history of being exposed to childhood sexual experiences that profoundly affected me,” he explains.Zweifach also told the board that he’s had two relapses with viewing adult pornography, but it stopped there.“I thank God that in the last eleven years, I’ve been entirely free of viewing the underage images that led to the loss of my license,” he adds.Zweifach has expressed a great deal of remorse for his actions.His license will officially be reinstated on Sept. 14.Zweifach will be on five years of probation which includes a number of stipulations, including not treating minors. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) — The California Medical Board is looking into a case where a San Diego doctor is accused of using dirty needles on pediatric patients. Newly released documents by the California Medical board states Dr. Bret Robert Gerber used dirty syringes on a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old in July 2016. At the time, Dr. Gerber worked at Scripps Coastal Medical Center in Hillcrest. The documents state a medical assistant reported seeing the doctor bring in two boxes of unauthorized needles from home. Upon closer review, she noticed that the syringes had expired in 2008, and the boxes contained dead insects and what looked to be rodent droppings. Three years before this alleged incident, Dr. Gerber was arrested by Mono County Sheriff's deputies for having psychedelic mushrooms, cocaine, and ecstasy. Deputies found the drugs inside his Winnebago during a traffic stop as the doctor was on his way to the Burning Man Festival. He later admitted to using ecstasy at the festival.Instead of court, Dr. Gerber went through a diversion program and the Medical Board put him on probation. However, in March 2018, documents showed Gerber violated his probation after failing to provide a bodily fluids sample for a drug test. Despite his prior offenses, Dr. Gerber’s medical license was never revoked. Dr. Gerber continues to practice pediatric medicine twice a week, most recently at Mid-City Community Clinic in City Heights. 10News contacted the California Medical Board for comment. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Marine Corps officials say the pilot of a fuel tanker showed impressive skills when he touched down safely in a remote area of California and prevented injuries among the seven other crew members after a mid-air collision with a fighter jet. A Marine Corps spokesman said Wednesday it's unclear what happened to cause the F-35B to collide with the KC-130J tanker near the town of Thermal in the late afternoon Tuesday. The jet pilot ejected successfully. The jet was refueling when the collision occurred. The tanker came in on its belly in a field."It was an impressive maneuver bringing it down safely by force," 1st Lt. Brett Vannier, a spokesman at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, told the AP. "His skills kind of speak to itself just in the fact that everyone survived.""I think the KC-130 crew did a masterful job of airmanship to get that baby down," added aviation safety consultant and retired Marine Corps Col. SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Marine Corps says one of its fighter jets collided in mid-air with another plane during a refueling operation in a remote desert area of Southern California.The pilot ejected and the other aircraft landed safely.Authorities say the F-35B jet collided with a Lockheed Martin KC-130J tanker around 4 p.m. Tuesday. The pilot who ejected is being treated, and nobody aboard the tanker was hurt.The jet crashed near the Salton Sea, northeast of San Diego.The big tanker landed in Thermal in neighboring Riverside County.Photos from the scene show the plane on its belly in a farm field. 610
