Two dozen python hunters are outnumbered by the thousands of pythons slithering through the Everglades, but they are making a difference."Some people like the city and the movies, I like the Everglades," said Kyle Penniston. Now-a-days, it's very rare to see a possum."Kyle captured an 8-foot python in western Miami-Dade county May 5th, but the python problem is affecting South Florida from coast to coast.Almost a year ago, an Collier County man caught one swallowing one of his pet goats, he shot it while it was in the middle of its meal.Since 2005, there have been python sightings recorded from Lehigh Acres all the way to Greater Miami."It's their fault, they didn't ask to come here they didn't get a ticket, they didn't drive here, they are here because of people," Kyle said of the snakes.Kyle says the pet trade is to blame for the population boom, making matters worse, in 1992, Hurricane Andrew destroyed a python breeding facility, sending more snakes slithering into the wild."You're never going to get every single python, it's just not a possibility because it's a vast area."But Kyle says the South Florida Water Management District's python elimination program is making a dent in the population.The program, which started in March 2017 is closing in on 1,000 kills. That number is low when you consider how many eggs were taken."Also around 2500 eggs have been removed as well."Kyle says although there is a long way to go, he's seen some native wildlife come back in certain areas of the Everglades.He's happy to be part of the solution to the python problem. "It's better to be out here trying to do something, than sitting at home on your couch."Python hunting is forbidden within the boundaries of Everglades National Park, but Congressman Francis Rooney is working with the Trump Administration to make an exception. 2282

Two pilots on different aircraft recently reported seeing unidentified flying objects in the airspace near them.A commercial pilot for American Airlines, who was flying a passenger jet Feb. 24 over Arizona, reported to Albuquerque Center air traffic control between 3:30 and 4:15 p.m. local time that an object seen?flying at 40,000 feet was unidentifiable and had a big reflection, according to The Huffington Post. Audio of the conversation between the pilot and?air traffic control was released by the Federal Aviation Administration to a website called The Drive, a product of Time Inc. In it, the jet's pilot is heard saying the UFO was flying the opposite direction of the airplane at least 2,000 to 3,000 feet above the plane.The FAA did not have knowledge of anything expected to fly above the jet when the UFO incident occurred.The pilot was asked whether he thought it was a Google balloon, and he said, "doubtful," The Drive's military and aviation correspondent reported.Another commercial pilot flying nearby at the same time also reported seeing an unidentifiable object, just after the first pilot's report. Two of the former owners of Toys "R" Us have agreed to pay million to help laid-off employees.Bain Capital and KKR, private equity firms that owned part of the toy retailer, set up a severance fund to pay former workers who lost their jobs when the company closed its stores.The third owner, real estate firm Vornado, did not join the fund, and did not immediately respond to request for comment.MORE: How the Toys 'R' Us closures massively impact?the U.S.Toys "R" Us filed for bankruptcy a year ago with plans to stay in business. But in March the company's creditors forced it to go out out of business, and the 31,000 remaining employees did not get severance payments.Some top executives at Toys "R" Us received bonuses as part of the bankruptcy process. The nation's bankruptcy laws place limits on the severance payments that can be made to laid-off employees, and they give priority to repaying creditors of the bankrupt companies.Had the employees been laid off before the bankruptcy, they would have been entitled to severance pay of up to one week of pay for every year of service.The million severance fund does not come from Toys "R" Us.The fund was set up following negotiations between the private equity firms and various public interest groups that organized the employees, including Organization United for Respect, Private Equity Stakeholder Project and Center for Popular Democracy."This Fund begins to ensure the hard-working people who spent their lives building Toys 'R' Us and making children happy are not left out in the cold," said Marilyn Muniz, a New York-based Toys "R" employee for nearly 20 years.The groups are seeking additional contributions to the fund from Vornado as well as two Toys "R" Us lenders, Solus and Angelo Gordon, which pushed the company to shutdown operations rather than stay in business.
