Walmart and Target are being sued for allegedly selling toys with lead levels up to 10 times more than the federal limit of 100 parts per million, New York Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood announced on Thursday. According to a statement released by Underwood's office, the AG's office was able to find Cra-Z-Jewelz jewelry-making kits from stores. The kits allegedly contained lead at levels of 120 to 980 parts per million. The Attorney General's office had further independent testing done to confirm the results. The toy's maker, LaRose Industries, which is also a plaintiff in the New York lawsuit, issued a national recall. Underwood's office is accusing Walmart, Target and LaRose of "repeated illegality and fraud under New York State law by committing thousands of violations of state law prohibitions on importing, distributing, and selling hazardous toys; deceiving consumers; and false advertising."Underwood's office is seeking civil penalties of  to ,000 for each Cra-Z-Jewelz kit the companies sought to sell in the state.“No parent should have to worry that their child’s toy may be toxic. As we allege, these companies imported and sold toys with dangerous levels of toxic lead – jeopardizing the health of New York’s children and breaking the law,” Underwood said in a statement. “Our lawsuit seeks to hold these companies accountable for the failures that allowed lead-contaminated toys on store shelves, while forcing them to take responsibility for the safety of the products they sell.”The suit also seeks to force the companies to adhere to higher quality control standards to prevent toys with high lead levels from being purchased. The CDC says that lead in children's blood has been shown to affect IQ, ability to pay attention, and academic achievement. VISTA (CNS) - Murder and child cruelty charges were filed Friday against a man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home.Pedro Araujo, 27, is accused in Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo, whose body was found in the home's bathroom.Police have not commented on her cause of death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used in her killing. In addition to murder, he's also charged with child cruelty in regards to Mariah, as well her 6-year-old sister, Viviana, who was also in the home at the time.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedAraujo was slated to appear in a Vista courtroom Friday afternoon, but did not appear because he was being held in "enhanced observation housing," though court staff did not elaborate. He's tentatively due to be arraigned Monday afternoon.The child's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, police spokesman Tom Bussey said.The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom. Detectives questioned Araujo and took him into custody on suspicion of murdering his daughter, Bussey said.Members of the girl's family gathered at the Vista courthouse Friday and told reporters that Araujo was unstable and should not have been anywhere near his daughters.Karina Avina, Mariah's aunt, said Araujo's mother had custody of the children as numerous CPS cases were open and ongoing against him, though the circumstances of those cases was unclear."We want him to pay the max. Walking into the South Fork Forest Camp, there’s no security checkpoint, no guards, no fence. Yet, it’s an Oregon Department of Corrections prison facility housing nearly 200 inmates.This camp is a place where men who have served most of their sentences, have records for good behavior and possess a strong work ethic can come to earn a second chance.“We’re all in here for different reasons,” said Ronald Lunsford, who is just one month from being released after more than a decade in prison.But all their paths led to the South Fork Forest Camp. A path now helping them turn away from the past.“Not everybody that comes to prison is a bad person. People make mistakes,” said Charles Teal, who has been firefighting and working in the camp’s mechanic shop since he left the traditional prison setting. “Places like this really help people get back on track.”Men who have less than four years left to serve can come here to get job training, and the training comes in many forms.Every morning before sunrise, the inmates trained in firefighting head out into the community to protect families’ homes.This summer, wildland fire crews have relied heavily on inmate crews for help.“I like going out there and helping the community,” said Juan DeLeon. “We’re human beings, we’re trying to do the right thing.”But not everyone is on the fire line: some inmates focus on the tree line learning forest management. Others in the shop learn carpentry and mechanic work, while many work in the camp hatchery raising fish to return to local rivers.The Oregon Department of Forestry partners with the Department of Corrections to provide job training, proper certification and the skills these men need to get jobs in these fields or similar fields as soon as they’re released.For Aaron Gilbert, the chance to step outside his cell was the beginning of a new chapter. “I’ve been in maximum security prison for the last 13 years, and I came out here just about a year ago. I remember I got off the bus here and my eyes couldn’t adjust, it was just so much green,” he said.Gilbert is working each day for just a few dollars towards a future he can now see clearly.“I feel like I’ve been able to pay back some of my debts to society, and so I want to get out and live a simple life and do the right thing, and that’s something this place will really teach you,” he said.On top of the job training these men can take with them after they’re released, this camp also found their recidivism rate is much lower than other correctional facilities in the state.“When we put someone through our program and they re-enter society, that they’re not going to going to re-enter this system, they’ll have the knowledge the skills and the capacity to be a productive member of society,” said Brandon Ferguson of the Oregon Department of Forestry.The Oregon Department of Corrections said every inmate costs taxpayers an average of ,000 dollars per year to care for and house, which is about 8 per day. South Fork is helping save the community money by keeping people from re-offending, and it’s creating a pipeline to the workforce.“All these guys that are here are going to get out, and they’re going to be our neighbors, so we want them to be successful,” said corrections Lt.
