ASHGABAT, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here on Wednesday that the joint natural gas projects between China and Turkmenistan serve the fundamental and long-term interest of both peoples.     Li made the remarks during a video conference with the Chinese and Turkmenistan's workers of China National Petroleum Corporation International (Turkmenistan). The workers had been busy with constructing a vast natural gas processing facility in a natural gas field some 700 kilometers southeast of Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat. The facility under construction is the starting point of the China-Turkmenistan pipeline, a part of the Central Asian Pipeline which starts at the border between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and runs through the southern part of Uzbekistan and central part of Kazakhstan before reaching to the Chinese northwest region of Xinjiang.     Li said the China-Turkmenistan pipeline, initiated by the top leaders of the two countries, is a strategic project and has become a model for friendly cooperation between the two sides. He added that the project, after finished, would promote social and economic development of both China and Turkmenistan. MOSCOW, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday that he is looking forward to meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao next month during the Chinese leader's trip to Russia.     Medvedev, who met with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Friday, said he and Hu will exchange views on major international and regional issues of common concern during their June meeting. YEKATERINBURG, Russia, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Tuesday presented a four-point proposal for dealing with the ongoing global financial crisis at the first summit meeting of BRIC countries which groups Brazil, Russia, India and China.     First, BRIC countries should commit themselves to bringing about an early recovery of the world economy, Hu said. "We should work hard to overcome the difficulties and try to take the lead in recovering from the global financial crisis," he said, adding "This is not only for our own need, but also contributes to world economic recovery." He also called for greater food assistance and closer agricultural and food cooperation.     "We should also accelerate our efforts in developing clean and renewable energy, and establish advanced research and promotion systems in a bid to diversity our energy supply," Hu said.     He urged the four countries to strengthen information exchanges and communication, share the experience on epidemics preventions and control, and work together to develop and share vaccines, and cooperate in pandemic control and prevention.

BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has allocated more than 126 million yuan (about 18.4 U.S. dollars) for disaster relief in six worst rainstorm-hit provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities in south China, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said here Sunday.     The six provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities include Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou and Chongqing.     A total of 5,200 tents were also sent to Guangxi, Jiangxi and Hunan to provide shelter for the people displaced there, the ministry said.     While Beijing and neighboring provinces are fighting heat waves, the southern half of the country has been drenched in rain or flood since late June.     The latest round of rainstorms and flood, also this year's worst according to the ministry, had battered 12 provinces, killing 75 people and leaving another 13 missing and 938,000 homeless as of 4 p.m. Sunday.     Close to 40 million people were affected by the rainstorms and the flood, it said, adding that a total of 101,000 houses were toppled in the flood, causing over 13 billion yuan (about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars) in direct economic losses, it said.

TOKYO, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Japan and China vowed to promote cooperation on the topics of environment protection, technology trade and intellectual property rights (IPR) protection during their second high-level economic dialogue held here on Sunday. "China attaches great importance on saving the energy and protecting the ecology, while Japan has broad experience and advanced technologies on these areas," said Zhang Ping, chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission, "So the two countries can achieve win-win results through close cooperation." They should have huge potential for cooperation to tap into the vast market both inside and outside China," according to Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming.     Chen said China will continue to promote overseas business of SMEs and hoped Japan can help facilitate the process by measures such as easing visa controls.     Chen and his Japanese counterpart, Toshihiro Nikai, minister of economy, trade and industry, also talked on strengthening 3G telecommunications network building, opening up source code software and software and IT service outsourcing, as well as the compulsory certification system for information security products that Chinese government planned to introduce.     They signed a memorandum and established for the first time a working group to protect intellectual property rights (IPR).     "The working group will focus on information sharing of laws and regulations with regards to IPR, as well as the experience in the law enforcement," Chen said.     "Japan is a very advanced country in terms of IPR protection and we believe there are many experiences that China can learn," he added.     He said through efforts in recent years China has established its own IPR protection system. "China, as a developing country, will face a lot of problems in the process of enforcement, but we will not shun such problems."     "China and Japan have a broad range of economic cooperation. We will use the working group mechanism to solve problems in respect of IPR protection," Chen said.     The memorandum signed by Chen and Nikai stipulates that the intellectual property working group meet once a year. Nikai asked that the working group convene its first meeting by the end of the year.     The one-day dialogue, co-chaired by Wang and Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone, was attended by senior officials from the two countries.     The dialogue mechanism, first held in Beijing in December 2007, was jointly launched by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during Wen's trip to Japan in April 2007.
