Family members of a Tennessee woman accused of ramming a security barrier at the White House said she is mentally ill and needs treatment.Jessica Ford went before a judge Thursday after police in Washington, DC said she plowed into the White House fencing and was immediately taken into custody by the Secret Service.It was Ford's fourth and most dramatic effort to gain access to the White House in recent months. She was charged with three felonies.The question of why Ford did what she did was no mystery. Her family said she suffers from a mental illness and that they actually warned the Secret Service last week that Ford, armed with a BB gun, was again headed for the White House.The 35-year-old insists her children live in the White House, and told the judge in court that her fiance is the President. "She is very delusional. She thinks her children are in the White House. That's why she keeps going up there," said Victoria Walls, Fords' cousin.In Ford's most recent attempt to get to the White House, she thought it was the holiday season."She decided when she left (last week) it was Christmas Eve, and I got to be there by Christmas Day," said her mother Alice Wilson. Authorities were watching for Ford since her family called to warn them that she was in route with plans to ram a gate."I said you can't go do that. They will kill you," said Walls.Ford still went and the Secret Service was waiting."I think that's the reason they didn't kill her, because they knew she was coming and knew she had a BB gun," said Wilson.Ford faces felonies and possibly years in prison."Oh, I love her with all my heart," said Wilson. She said her daughter needs help. Ford's cousin said it all could be prevented if Ford could get mental health treatment.Walls said after each arrest before this latest one "...Ttey take her in for 72 hours to a week and let her out..." allowing her to be back at it again.Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall said lack of treatment in cases like this is the real issue."Until you arrest the real issue, and it's not the person it's illness or addiction, then you'll see people keep doing this," Hall said.Ford may go to prison or, based on her mental health issues, she could again be released. She would then return home to La Vergne, Tennessee with her children, who doesn't really believe are hers.Ford will likely again be able plot another visit to the White House."They know she has mental problems, but they don't give her help," said Walls.They could give her time behind bars. Facebook has come under fire for a "barbaric use of technology" that allowed the sale of a child bride to be held on its site.An auction was held on the social media platform for a 16-year-old girl in South Sudan which sought payment for her hand in marriage.Facebook said the post was taken down as soon as the company learned of it, but that wasn't until after the girl was married.According to children's rights organization Plan International, the girl was bid on by five men, some of whom were reportedly high-ranking South Sudanese government officials.Activists are concerned that this auction -- for which the father reportedly received 500 cows, three cars and ,000 in exchange for his daughter -- could inspire other families to use social media sites to receive larger payments.Plan International's country director in South Sudan, George Otim, said: "That a girl could be sold for marriage on the world's biggest social networking site in this day and age is beyond belief."He added: "This barbaric use of technology is reminiscent of latter-day slave markets." 1084

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Escondido-based avocado grower is voluntarily recalling avocados sold in bulk due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Henry Avocado Corporation issued the recall Saturday due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during routine inspection of its packaging facility. So far, there are no reports of illness. The recalled products were packaged at Henry Avocado’s packaging facility and distributed to Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Customers can identify the recalled fruit by the “Bravocado” stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the “Bravocado” label on the sticker. Instead those products are labeled “organic” and include “California” on the sticker.All shipments from the facility are subject to the recall. According to the company, avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado are not part of the recall. The company said in a news release that it’s contacting all affected customers to make sure the products are removed from shelves. Anyone who purchased the recalled product are urged to discard or return the items for a full refund. FALLBROOK (CNS) - One person was killed on Interstate 15 near Fallbrook early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash that may have involved alcohol, authorities said.California Highway Patrol officers were first alerted to the crash shortly after 5 a.m. when a truck driver reported seeing a damaged car with an injured person inside stop momentarily at the truck scales in Rainbow before continuing on northbound I-15, CHP Officer Mark Latulippe said.Officers called hospitals in Temecula and Murrieta to check if there were any walk-in patients who could have been involved in the crash, and eventually were alerted that apparent victims had turned up at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta, according to a CHP incident log.One passenger involved in the crash, identified as a 20-year-old man from Winchester, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Latulippe said. Another passenger, a 21-year-old Torrance man, sustained moderate injuries and the driver, a 23-year-old man also from Torrance, was not injured.The driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, Latulippe said.Officers were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and determined it occurred on northbound I-15 past state Route 76.Evidence suggested that the car struck a call box, lost control toward the center divider and may have returned to the right shoulder before continuing on the freeway, Latulippe said.Officers asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the CHP Border Communications Center at (858) 637-3800. 1538

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - One of the two victims killed in a crash in Escondido Sunday night has been identified as 19-year-old Ana Lira.The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on El Norte Parkway and Ash Street, according to Escondido police.A witness told 10News he believed a Dodge Charger ran a red light and collided with a Ford Mustang in the intersection.Police confirmed one of the cars ran a red light, but they could not confirm which car committed the violation.One person was ejected from the Mustang and landed in the front yard of a nearby home. That person was declared dead at the scene, and another person inside the Mustang was also killed in the crash.The Charger’s driver and another person from the Mustang were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.The crash forced police to close El Norte Parkway between Conway Drive and Fig Street.
