SPRING VALLEY (KGTV): People who live in the East County say they're fed up with the growing homeless problem around Spring Valley County Park.They say it's gotten worse over the last few months, and many parents are now afraid to bring their children there."They yell and scream, and they’re fighting each other," says Gustavo Galvez. His son, Gustavo, Jr. goes to the preschool at the park. "It’s concerning to have your kids listen to that kind of stuff."The county admits the problem has gotten worse. In a statement to 10News, they outlined steps the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Health and Human Services is taking to solve it.Those include:- Coordinating outreach events to give the homeless assistance and resources.- Increasing lighting around the park, especially near the restrooms.- Increased cleaning of common areas around the parkThe county also says that the Sheriff's Department has stepped up their patrols in the area. There is a Sheriff's Substation across the street, which helps keep and eye on the park.Some parents, though, say it's not enough."I feel bad. I know they need to be somewhere. But I don't think they should be where children are," says Lisa Brown, who brings a group of kids from her daycare to the park. "It's a playground. Kids go here."Concerned parents plan to bring their complaints to the Spring Valley Planning Group board meeting Wednesday night. ST JOSEPH, Mo. — A couple rushed to save a dog’s life after she was shot and left for dead in the woods.Jacob Carter, his fiance Robin Musser, and a few other family members were out hunting for mushrooms Thursday in the Bluffwoods Conservation Area just south of St. Joseph, Missouri.The group was just finishing up when they heard gunshots."We heard two gunshots, and we were coming on out anyway and stuff, getting ready to pack up and leave,” said Carter.Musser said the gunfire didn’t worry them since it’s common during turkey hunting season. "We'd seen a turkey earlier, thought maybe someone was shooting at the turkey,” she said.As they were driving out of the woods, something caught Musser’s eye."We were coming down the road and I spotted the dog and thought it was a puppy,” said Musser.Carter pulled over to go see if the dog was okay.As he walked closer he noticed it was an adult dog that wasn’t moving, and then he saw blood."That's when I noticed that she was shot, so I took my shirt off and started applying pressure,” said Carter.The white female pitbull had been shot twice, once in the back of the head and once through her ear. 1184

(AP) — A Vermont woman whose family peacock ran off with a flock of turkeys says she's hopeful to get close enough to catch it with a net.The peacock belonging to Rene and Brian Johnson has been on the run for six weeks.On Wednesday, the Johnsons posted a message on the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Facebook page: "My peacock has run off with the turkeys. Do you have any suggestions on how to catch the little twerp?"Rene Johnson told WCAX-TV she thinks the bird she calls Pea was lonely so it sought turkey companions.Johnson said Friday she got close to Pea on Thanksgiving Day, but couldn't catch it.Johnson says she's worried about the cold, but she recognizes the unusual situation, which she says is "kind of funny, actually." 766

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was confronted at a restaurant in Kentucky on Friday, according to CNN affiliate WLKY.According to WLKY, McConnell, a Republican representing Kentucky, was dining at Havana Rumba in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, when a group of men approached the couple."Why don't you get out of here?
